Padding, waterproof stuff, and if the snow is rock hard, ice-like, might consider not snowboarding, because last week I almost broke my wrist trying to do it, just from repeatedly falling on it on the hard ice, and it was my 3rd time snowboarding.

Three whole times?;)

Seriously though, it will hurt quite a bit if it's icey (duh!), because you do spend so much time on your backside.

gloves
snowboard(water resistant) pants
thermal pants
water resistant jacket
thermal shirt
an extra shirt
wool/extra warm socks (IMPORTANT)
a hat (beanie) and googles (not important because you'll be going less than 5MPH the whole day ;))
lots of $, cause it's expensive.

Yes, three! Must make me an uber super ooper pro!!

I switched back to skiing, which I am actually somewhat competent with, and still hurt myself when one of my skis fell off while going off a jump. lol, I think those things might need repair... =/

If there are ice patches, I find it best to just go straight through them and not try to turn on the ice. Works Great!

for real, find someone who has knee pads and get those. also if you can get a butt bone protector (like the ones used in football) it will help greatly. otherwise you will be limping for a week from all of the brusing

Hehe, I remember not doing that at Sunday River. I went off the trail and hurt myself pretty badly, although nothing was broken that time. It still left me bruised pretty badly for over a week :(

prepare for pain...I've tried boarding a few times, but I just can't get my skier's-mind around the mechanics...maybe I'll give it another try eventually.
