Thanks to AMD giving competition to Intel and the two titans duking it out in the processor market, Intel had to lower its prices to compete. There is no telling what we would be paying if they weren't around.
I am a big AMD fan and since I started my job which was formally Intel territory I have managed to shift the balance to majority AMD slowly but surely. Soon we'll have no Intel CPUs left.
