Intel is evil, cuz there wasnt any mobo support for Tuatulin Celeron fcpga2
I had like 1.1ghz, 1.2ghz, and 1.1ghz.. now it just their collecting dust!
the biostar m6vlr just doesn't suit it! can you believe how bad it is? sandra memory benched marked 250mb/s whether with onboard VGA or with pci vga. that motherboard was crap. utterly slow as hell as if I am running on K6-2 500mhz :(
Their still selling alot of celeron fcpga based motherboard but no fcpga2 mobo. P4 mobo plus p4 celeron isn't just cost effective! the performance is also bad for the amount you pay, that with Athlon XP 2200/2400 you get nearly twice the performance.

I'm all for AMD

even if youprefer Intel, it makes sense to support the underdog to increase competition

Intel is evil. I hear that 1% of their annual spending is on chopping down rain forests and clubbing baby seals.

Yeah. It's 5% of their budget. And they club the baby seals with the corpses of white tigers.

AMD all the way.

Intel is a chip monopoly. They are all PR and no substance. Their stupid NetBurst architecture and the Hz myth paid off when the clock speeds of their Northwood got really high, but then AMD came out with ATHLON 64, which kicked ****. The Pentium 4 is also overpriced, and the Prescott has heating issues. The Xeons would be OK if they could perform at the level that they do without the price tag and the huge cache. Opterons that cost half as much with no L3 cache already beat them most of the time.

The Pentium 3 had its time until the Athlon came around, at which point Intel shouldn't have devoted all their resources to developing high clock speeds. They might be able to turn things around with the new Banias based processors, but they would've been better off if they'd just done that in the first place.

The Celerons are also just crap. A 2.8 GHz Celeron can be beat by a Duron that is cheaper. I think the biggest killer for the NetBurst architecture is branch prediction misses and the constant need for reducing transistors per stage.

The Itanium 2 is a pretty good server processor, but I bet IBM will beat it eventually. If it didn't use such an exclusive VLIW instruction set, it might be more accepted. Again, the cache and cost problem don't help.

AMD wasn't pressured by the masses to go along with silly myths; they did their research and churned out the most effecient and effective product. The underdog better prevail or I'll kill those seals myself.

I thought they bumped that up to 6-8%.

I hear they are going after the pandas next.

Have you tried the Tualatin/FCPGA2 adapters? They don't work with all motherboards, but they're not too expensive.

Personally, I think the PIII-based Celeron was a decent product. The P4-based Celeron is a lot less satisfying, however. The performance is surprisingly poor, but the power consumption is comparable to a P4 running the same speed.

As to which is better, it depends on the moment. Last year when I was doing some system upgrading out here, Intel-based systems offered substantially more bang-for-the buck, but one of the things I was looking for was PCI-X support.

Bang for the buck is what it's all about.

At the bleeding edge, AMD and Intel are close. One's better at one type of job, the other's better at something else. But even then, the measured differences are small.

If you're flush with $$ (just won lotto, rich uncle died, bottom feeder...errr I mean lawyer, etc) then buy whatever you want. If you're like the rest of us working joes, AMD all the way. :D

I heard that while AMD uses copper interconnects, INTEL uses crushed bald eagle beak. Has something to do with clockspeed and queue depth or something..

The Intel fabs at Hawthorn, Jones Farm, Aloha, and Ronler Acres dump their hydroflouric waste into the Portland water supply.

They exhaust their silane through a pipeline to the polar caps.

It's true!
