Oh man, it really is one of the best games ever made. EVER.

Why the hell are there not more games like this? The publishers must know we'd all flip out and buy them... so where's the funding?

on the contrary - with the popularity of relatively mindless games today, i think you'd be hard-pressed to have someone put up capital for an RPG with 5000 pages of dialogue like PS:T. a damn shame, really.

:wub:BG2

Fenixgoon called it. Nearly all games need to be snack-wrapped in little packages now, and the shorter attention spans are making big companies more money.

not gonna lie, i love blowing stuff up. i just bought darksiders for PC 😀

but i enjoy a good RPG too  (just not DA:O, lol. good game, but i thought it could have been much better)

Very good point... Critical acclaim means nothing when there are thousands of people willing to pay $20 for an MP map pack.

Dont forget it's all about pretty now. Not so much about story or gameplay. Many people dismiss a game simply because it's graphics are not as shiny as they think they should be.

I need to dig this out...have it stashed somewhere. Never did finish it but I loved what I played of it way back in the day.

Dumb question, I know, but what about this game makes it better/worse than Baldur's Gate?

I've played BG but not PS:T. Just wondering.

Outstanding writing and characters.

BG uses the same elf/human/etc. type characters. PS:T has Morte, a floating skull. Sarcastic floating head that follows you everywhere. Your character, a scar ridden man who cannot die. Etc

You wake up in a morgue, with no memory, and covered in scars and with a message to you tattooed on your back. Soon you find that you can be beaten, burned, stabbed, clubbed, choked, poisoned, cut... and you don't die, you just wake up sometime later.

THAT'S the type of thing that makes the game kickass. Such amazing storylines and characters.

Nordom: Attention; Morte. I have a question. Do you have a destiny? A purpose?
Morte: Is Annah still wearing clothes?
Nordom: Affirmatory.
Morte: Then the answer is yes.

i love how within like 2 minutes of playing, Morte is looking to shack up with some zombie ladies.

i just got into Sigil (a whole 10 minutes into the game, woot woot!)

I remember choking on some Reeses Pieces when that conversation happened.

Just ran across this one:

Hive Dweller: (Referring to Morte) Oh, look! A floating skull!
Morte: Oh, look! A talking turd!

Bwuahaha.

How is the combat in PS:T? I could go for a great story driven RPG because I found DA:O to be a huge flop just because of the combat. I felt I had to micromanage each battle to not get slaughtered. I'm normally a fan of "One man army"ing it up and this seems party based? Does it suffer from being party based and what looks to be active combat?

It's my first playthrough and I just hit level 6 with the warrior class, should I switch over to mage/thief or just stick with warrior? Doesn't seem like you can multi-class, so you might as well just stick with one class the whole way or am I wrong?

Does the GOG version and its cd check removal present issues with using mods?

It doesn't appear so (at least for Planescape), I posted a link earlier for some higher res textures and a Widescreen Mod.

I don't see why the Mods for the other games in the series wouldn't work, it shouldn't be all that different other than really not having to worry about any DRM measures 🙂
