If you seen what goes into making Godiva chocolate, you'd see why it's so expensive. The ingredients they use cost 1/2 of the price of the product!

You're just bittered 'cause you had to pay for it. Free chocolate FTW.

I generally don't buy chocolate. I get it as gifts at the holidays sometimes, but that's about it. The only exception is I bought a sh!t load of Cadberry Cream Eggs for $0.25 each 'cuz I love them bitches :D Mmmmmmmmm

In my experience, Godiva chocolates are damn good. Not necessarily worth the price, but it's good.

I've never been really impressed by Godiva. I don't really like truffles, though, and that's what they're known for. I like straight up bars of different kinds.

Green & Black's puts out some of the best I've ever tried. Plus, you are assured that buying it doesn't support slavery like the rest of the industry.

Oh, and fresh picked strawberries + melted Green & Blacks >>>>>>>>> Godiva.

my educated 2 cents:

Godiva is crap. They don't use very high quality chocolate and they live off of their name. Second, the new Hershey's dark line is actually quite good.

I've never had better candy.

then you've never had great chocolate.
or you let the name get into your head and begin to imagine nothing can compare to it because godiva for some reason is proclaimed as the greatest by layman.

Dark chocolate sucks.

It's an acquired taste

and the key is not to outright chew it like milk chocolate...

I've actually tried a bunch of different kinds and I couldn't get over the bitterness. Maybe I was just trying the wrong stuff, but I don't like it at all.

To me that's like saying Bose makes the best speakers.....

Godiva makes mediocre chocolate. Infact, they don't make their own coverture from beans. They buy it from bulk suppliers and make bars. If you want to try real chocolate, try some chocolate from Michel Cluizel, or Valrhona. Now that's good stuff....

I haven't tried Hershey's new 60% chocolate, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it were better than godiva.

Maybe you want to try something mild like Valrhona's Le Noir? Or you could try some of the high cocoa percentage milk chocolates that are starting to come out.

And real dark chocolate is a lot more than bitter. It's almost like tasting wine. Different growing conditions, locations and processing and blending make for dramatically different flavours and textures. It's a lot more than "just chocolate".

This thread is making me hungry. I may have to break into that last chocolate bunny I've been saving since Easter . . .

I've never seen anyone sell dark chocolate that actually tastes good. I like Godiva's white chocolate and milk chocolate bars.
