The blue laws BEGAN as religious laws. Now they're lobbied for and maintained by small businesses, not the religious right. If supermarkets and convenience stores can sell beer on Sunday morning then package stores have to stay open too. That costs them money for very little return and on a slow day they'd probably lose money during those hours.
Pay attention to your local newspaper once in a while. When the blue laws come up for review and possible change it's not the Jesus-freaks that are screaming about maintaining a holy day, it's small business owners who are screaming about maintaining a day off. Just buy your beer on Saturday evening or any other time during the week. It's not all that complicated.
yeah, because if SOME businesses are open and selling their wares on Sunday morning, then OBVIOUSLY ALL businesses have to be open TOO! they HAVE to be open and losing money! my GOD... if they didn't... the world would... IMPLODE!!!!!!!1111
not having laws that limit when money can change hands would lead to BANKRUPTCY of the ENTIRE middle class! ALL the small businesses would DIE!!!!

even as a stanch liberal, i've gotta say, this is big government at its worst.
guess what? Where I live, I can booze on Sunday morning, and Mom and Pop's Toy Store isn't open until 2 PM. And the world didn't implode. And Mom and Pop's are still in business. Fancy that. What a freaking wonderful world we live in.
and although yes, he could conceivably start a massive grass-roots movement that would change public opinion and policy, the reality is he can't do jack sh!t about it, other than move to a state where the people don't marry their sisters.
