In a certain town in New Jersey, its illegal to make loud noises like honking your horn on Sundays. Instead, your expected to smack your hand on the side of your door to get the other person's attention.

Good thing too, because I was going to get fvcking wasted at 10AM on a Sunday. I just left my cart at the register with everything in it and walked out.

How the hell do people buy beer in time for Sunday football games? Good thing some Christians thought up this ban on beer before 12. Maybe they can all put their heads together and outlaw dancing too. Maybe censor some books. Christ.

This is a democracy. If you don't like it then vote in the next elections. Even outrageous laws are still laws. And without them we wouldn't be living in a civilization.

Um ever heard of minority rights? Going by your attitude, blacks would still be slaves.

The concept of "minority rights" is flawed because rights only for minorities is discriminatory against the majority. There should just be "rights" for everyone, regardless of majority or minority or race or sex or any other ridiculously ignorant rationale (rationalle?) -and nothing else!

This is just a guess, but maybe they buy their beer on...

Wait for it..

Saturday!!! That's what the fridge is there for!

Why should this be the only option?

It isn't the only option. You can still purchase liquor on Sunday, just at limited hours. I think the public can curb their alcohol consumption for a few hours a week.

Nice dodge, kinda pointless though as I'll just rephrase; why should options be limited?

And hence the capitalistic attitude of most people here on AT; If you can pay for it, you should be able to do it, pretty much irregardless of anything else. Money makes right, end of story

That's not what anyone has said; rather, the argument is that if something doesn't hurt others, there's no basis for outlawing it. Perhaps if you learned to read...

Pay attention to your local newspaper once in a while. When the blue laws come up for review and possible change it's not the Jesus-freaks that are screaming about maintaining a holy day, it's small business owners who are screaming about maintaining a day off. Just buy your beer on Saturday evening or any other time during the week. It's not all that complicated.

But they don't need to be maintaining it. Our local(Jefferson county ky) blue laws came up for review and disappeared. But now we can buy anything on sunday, so the package stores can sell bourbon too. It would be in the small business's interest to fight to be able to sell their full product line.

I don't see people bitching when the world shuts down for a day to celebrate christmas. Why are you guys bitching when stores stop selling liquor for 12-24 hours?

You're right. But usually minority rights means it's against laws that discriminate against the minority. It usually calls for equal action, not minorities getting more.

And it is sadly ironic that so many people who don't believe in god, let alone jesus, celebrate / observe Christmas in the first place...positively silly.

California FTW...lots of stores open 24/7/365.

Just buy the beer on Saturday. It is kind of stupid to prohibit selling Beer on Sunday if you are making someone work on Sunday. Never saw the logic of that. I am a Mormon and I choose not to buy things on Sunday, because I feel it is wrong to force people to work on
Sunday just to have a job. I know other people feel differently, but I dont force my views on other people. So, I just buy what I want like Gas and Food and whatever on Saturday. It takes some discipline to do this but it is like second nature after a while.

It probably is cheaper to buy Beer by the case anyway.

Dont take it out on a store that is just being force by law to do something a specific way. They had Blue laws for years in St Louis, MO. In Kansas City Kansas they had Blue Laws and they use to run bars as private clubs to get around the law.

yeah, because if SOME businesses are open and selling their wares on Sunday morning, then OBVIOUSLY ALL businesses have to be open TOO! they HAVE to be open and losing money! my GOD... if they didn't... the world would... IMPLODE!!!!!!!1111

not having laws that limit when money can change hands would lead to BANKRUPTCY of the ENTIRE middle class! ALL the small businesses would DIE!!!!

/sarcasm

even as a stanch liberal, i've gotta say, this is big government at its worst.

guess what? Where I live, I can booze on Sunday morning, and Mom and Pop's Toy Store isn't open until 2 PM. And the world didn't implode. And Mom and Pop's are still in business. Fancy that. What a freaking wonderful world we live in.

and although yes, he could conceivably start a massive grass-roots movement that would change public opinion and policy, the reality is he can't do jack sh!t about it, other than move to a state where the people don't marry their sisters.

You dodged the question again, guess it's no surprise considering your only argument is "God says so" and you know damn well that wouldn't go over well here ;) Regardless, since it's so easy and fun to shoot down your flawed and amateur arguments - Christmas occurs once a year; Sunday liquor laws occur 52 times a year. Starting to see a difference?

Is there any other type of morality? "subjective" and "religous" covers a lot of ground.

How's that ironic? I love how Christians think they have a monopoly on December 25th. People were celebrating on December 25th waaaay before the Christians started using the date. LOL
