most likely is someone you know that did this...

do you have alarm in your car?

got car got broken in twice but the alarm sounded... so the expensive system is still in there... lucky me...

the first time is someone who i believe did it (no prove, but i'm pretty sure)... 2nd time is a random....

again... alarm is important investment.. make sure u get a good one!

I would be so incredibly angry if someone ripped off my headunit. They can have the speakers though. I need new ones. I think I should start carrying the faceplate with me when I leave the car.

Had my car broke into twice. After the first time, I had an alarm installed and got a cd player with a detachable face. That didn't stop them. They broke into it again. Now I have a Kimber 45 and am awaiting the third break-in. 🙂 I have no tolerance for thieves. Steal my sh!t and your life is forfeit. End of story.

Very sorry this happened to you, notfred.

Province/State: Texas

that explains it 😉

oh man, you don't fukk with others ppl's car man, that's like part of our manhood! (citing from Pulp Fiction)

anyway,
notfred: was it an expensive headunit? did they steal CDs and other valuables?

Aww sh!t man, what a bitch.... I once had my window smashed in with nothing stolen, and that was annoying enough to ruin my night (had to drive home from work in the winter with freezing air coming in, only to tape it up with a trash bag when I got home, my hands were numb after that). Anyways, though there's a very small chance, I hope you can get a lead on anyone who did this 🙁

i had my window smashed once....found a lock and chain about 20 ft away....think it's the "weapon".....nothing was stolen though....

As a fellow Stanger, that sh|t pisses me off. Hopefully you find out who did this b.s. I would do a post on 98cobra.com and see if you can get any leads over there. Good luck man.

That's horrible. 🙁

My mom's 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was stolen twice, the first time it was parked because it had an electronics problem and they never got off my road. About 6 months later, it was gone for good. I hope they loved a 220,000mi car with a slipping tranny, no heat and a possesed electronics sys. The digital dash would start reading things like 170mph for no reason.🙁

Back in college, my Oldsmobile Delta 88 was also stolen. Apparently, these are easy targets. I got my car back eventually, and looking at notfred's pics reminded me of exactly what happened to my car. They ripped into the steering column - for Oldsmobiles, there's actually a latch you can turn inside the steering column so hotwiring isn't even needed. They took the stereo and speakers as well.

notfred, sorry to hear about this. You're a real nice guy, and it sucks that something like this happened to you.

My buddy just got his window smashed the other day (here in Davis). My apartment is right next to I-80 so people steal cars here and bust it towards Sacramento. Seems like there's a rash of car tampering in this area. Did you call to file a police report? It's pretty useless I know but it's something. I'm going to write a petition to have either a gate installed or private patrol at our apartment complex.

Well, there is a good deterance. (way to get even)

Put razor blades in a hidden area of the faceplate (on the back naturally). Theives are always in a hurry, so they will "rip" the head unit out. Actually forking up their hands at the same time.

it's a good way to get even and it has happened. unfortunately, you wil be sued over adding this safety feature in. Maybe place warning stickers on the windowsand/or head unit. Something like. physical harm may result in the attempted theft of this item".

I was going to tell you to watch your language in regards to the thread title, but now that I've seen pictures, I say cuss away, my friend!

Sorry about all that happening to you... that's just plumb awful. 🙁

Sucks. I hope whoever did this gets hit by a bus or something.

BTW, dumb question here....

why are airbags the most stolen/most profitable item? Never heard that before.

Friggin sack-o-chits...hope your ins.covers it. But there's so much of that crap going on these days. There using portable sawsall's here to rip dashboards here in the bay area...

You'd be willing to spend the rest of your life in jail (or dead if the death penalty still exists in your state) for something that your insurance company will replace in a couple of weeks anyways? Great idea, Einstein.

They cost or at least used to cost $1000+ to replace.

Now the big thing seems to be HIDs. My friend's S4's HIDs were stolen a couple months ago. Cost $3K to replace them not even adding in the cost of fixing the damage they caused when they used a crowbar to pry them loose.

sing us a song mr. bleeding heart. What the people who did that to notfred's car really need is a hug, right? Screw that, shoot first, drag them into your apt and claim self defense. 😉

You forgot the rest...Should have been: Best thing you can do is forgive and move on.

That is after you break a kneecap or two and make sure they won't be able hold a brick anytime soon. I've got no tolerance for thievery as well. Someone farked up my window on my car before last in a botched break in attempt.

You might want to check with the local police as well, The last apartment complex I was in was having some major problems with a local group of thieves. 5 cars were broke into within a 3 week period as well as 2 apartments. The apartment complex did not tell anyone what was happening for fear of losing some tenants because of what was happening. I had to contact the local sheriffs department to get the lowdown. If you find out and that this is the case you could probably get a free enclosed garage out of it.

iamwiz82: "uh....my dog rolled around on the dead body and then ran outside."

wink wink nudge nudge say no more

😛😀

Good luck finding the person that did that. I hope the police there are better than they are here. When my system was stolen back on January 31st (yes I remember the exact day), they pretty much laughed and said that's what insurance is for. Idiots...
