I heard schools in Texas have GPA's out of like 8 or something so their GPA's on college app's look really inflated.
I wish I could have gotten into one of those schools. I got a 1520 on SAT and 33 on ACT but my GPA was only 3.7 for not doing pointless homework.

4.5 gpa?
Yes, weighted GPA's. Our valedictorian has ~4.5-4.8 (all A+'s since 9th grade).

what's the color of her skin? I wouldn't be so surprised if she is black or latino.
back in my hs, this black girl with very medicore got into columbia. her background? her dad is in jail and her mom is a hooker.
That comment is a bit racist....

good for her.
this person in the OP IMO deserves to get in no matter what her background.
second that. Giving chances to people means that the next generation will likely have less fathers in jail and less hookers as mothers.

SAT Score? 1500 would make it very possible, IMO.
Grats to her, she's probably set.

Re: Flash1969- Its not that we're "encouraging" it, its just what happens. I'm not a racist by any means, but I can still notice that hispanics get into UVA with a LOT lower GPAs and a LOT less APs than their asian/white counterparts. Good for them.

Not "anyone" can have a 4.0. Not with the caliber of courses required for them to be competitive. And I can't really explain away the (piss-poor, for Harvard) GPA with the extracurriculars listed, either. None of them strike me as out of the ordinary, unless she was also particularly talented in something you forgot to mention. One of my close friends got into Harvard, but she also had near-perfect grades in the best high school in the state and was offered admission into Juiliard for her cello skills as well.
In short, I'm stumped. But I'm gonna assume connections.

a 4.5 gpa for a valedictorian is NOTHING. my valedictorian had a 6.0 (all As plus dualenrollment AA degree).

Giving chances to people based on the color of their skin is discrimination. It is amazing how this country has come full circle and people like you encourage it. It was discrimination when white people were favored and it is discrimination when minorities are favored. I sure hope I live to see the day when a white person has the same chances as a minority. I'm not counting on it.
