The queen is a pain, but it's just a matter of learning how to dodge each attack and how much you can attack her before getting ready to dodge the next one

after a long and unnecessary break from the game I was finally able to play for a few hours last night; got the chisel and defeated a valkyrie. I realize it was probably the easiest of the bunch but the fight was a blast once I got the timing down. I think I'm going to go around and open the secret chambers until I face an enemy that is too difficult to defeat without powering up. I had a hard time with a back of those wulver things but was eventually able to put them down.

has anyone found all of the treasure spots? I somehow passed right by a few of them that weren't even really hidden--like the one right outside of Fafmir's store room. you literally walk right over it.

I think I found them all. I don't think they show up on the ground until you are close to them

I really admire God of War. Yep, I'm not a fan of that kind of games. Mostly I play Fifa and other sport games. God of War is just beyond my expectations. I loved the story line and characters. Also the atmosphere was so addictive.

Just now getting to the parts of the main story after reacquiring the BoC. I figured the combat with them would be different, and it is a bit, but they're still just as fun to use. Defeated the Valkyrie underneath the witch's turtle house, which took about 20 tries on this diff, but I had fun doing it (and also failing at it). I also went to the secret chamber near the house in Wildwoods but there was just a rift and annoying enemies so I eventually just gave up on that one. Defeated the traveler champion too but that was actually still pretty tough.

Is there any high incentive to return to the realm of the dead (Helheim?) or should I try to finish the cipher and get into that other one? I'm actually pretty stuck with where to go next on that. I still haven't entered Tyr's vault btw.

the only reason to visit those optional realms is to upgrade your gear. if you think you need to, go for it. otherwise you can save it for end-game content or skip it if you want.

Shelved this for a bit but came back to it last night. Still can't beat the effing queen! Must be my 52 year old hand reflexes.

keep trying. I'll admit I watched a youtube video that broke down most of her moves and how to best dodge them. just be patient and use rune attacks as often as possible. I didn't bother with his axe throwing, just used arrows to shoot her down to stop that huge radius attack

Another Valkyrie down, this one not quite as tough as the last that spawned the Draugr but still gave me some grief. Don't remember what her/its name was but I had to do a lot of axe throwing in order to stop her air attacks. After awhile I got pretty used to her attack patterns and was able to win the fight.

Once I was leveled up after getting all I could get at Neflheim, the remaining 4 Valkyries I had left were a walk in the park.

But the queen on the other hand...

I still haven't gone back to her yet and it's been a couple of weeks. Just been playing other games though when I've had time.

Valkyries become a bit easier once you have the blades and can chain runic attacks for more damage and staggers. Also, if you can get good at sidestepping instead of rolling to avoid some attacks, you'll have more openings to respond.

The Queen's large flash attack can be outranged, though that isn't reliable as usually her position won't allow it or you don't have enough time to get away. You can do a 180 as well to avoid it - you have to be facing her to get hit.

Is it the same flash attack that leaves you in a cloud of smoke? I didn't think to turn around for that one... but eventually it was easy enough to pick up on when she hopped up into the air. The thing that was getting me on the last one was the sudden wing charge attack; for some reason it was hard for me to get a bead on her during that split second.

I can't imagine trying to fight enemies without the yellow and red attack indication rings.

The flash attack where she jumps up in the air. Not sure about the shorter range flash attack that goes something like dash-flash two or three times.

I started out in immersive mode. I think the yellow/red flashes are the only thing that's always on no matter what mode you choose. I really enjoyed non-combat without the interface, but after a while I needed more info in combat. I turned on the directional attack indicators, and then put most of the rest of the interface onto the touch pad so I could just do a quick swipe to check health, rage, cooldowns, and enemy health. Once I really learned the combat I didn't need it as much except to make the most of my cooldowns. I played Breath of the Wild last year with the minimal interface, and I just recently started Horizon and have had the interface on "dynamic" which lets it fade out after a few moments. It's refreshing to not have all the screen clutter, and makes the exploration parts of these games so much better.

I finished the game over the weekend, well finished the story anyway. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, seemed kind of anti-climactic. The final boss battle was pretty entertaining but I didn't even realize that I was fighting the final battle until I got to the top of the mountain and the credits started.

Started playing FarCry 5 again, I'm not sure when I'll get back to GoW. I caved and pre-ordered spiderman too, so I'll have that soon enough.

Apparently they rolled out new game + with new armor and attacks for god of war. I thought about going back and playing it again but it would take too long. Never played a spiderman game but if they make it like Arkham Knight then it would be interesting, still have yet to finish it.

I get way too many games that I start then I don't go back and finish. Red dead redemption is what I am waiting for next and will probably spend a lot of my time on.

NG+ is pretty fun. I probably should have done give me god of war mode though. It is awfully easy so far on the second hardest difficulty with all the gear / moves carrying over. I love this game, it is so well done.

A total masterpiece. Hit a little low with Ascension but the new GoW is an all-time high.

Yes, what a game. Finished the first playthrough with 100% completion (in-game and all trophies)...I was shocked as I never felt I was grinding or looking for every secrets in the game.

This is a masterpiece.

God of War 4 is STUNNING on the PS4. Every aspect of the game is nearly perfect, which includes the audio/video suite. The resolution of the graphics along with HDR implementation is the best I've ever seen from a console game (and yes, that includes other stunners such as Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gears of War 4, Assassin's Creed Origins, etc.). The sound design is incredible as well with no trace of audio compression or glitching.

I agree the controls are tough to get used to. Specifically, the click R3 and L3 for the Spartan rage and then click only R3 when you stun an enemy.

Also don’t get me started on accidentally triggering spartan rage when I click L3 to sprint then click R3 to lock a target but I do it too fast(or at the same time I guess)

Glad I'm not the only one. One particular boss fight on Give Me a Challenge was hell because this boss was suicide to lose focus on and I'd sometimes go into Spartan Rage when trying to focus.

I can't believe I waited so long to play this, especially considering the reveal at E3 2016 was the whole reason I even bought a PS4. What a great game, it definitely lives up to all the hype and on the Give Me a Challenge difficulty it plays somewhat like a Souls game. Finally platinumed it this morning after getting stuck on one particularly difficult fight for a couple of days.

Also man, this game must really push the base PS4 to its limits. I have never even heard my PS4 Slim on any other game but this one makes it run pretty loud. Drops my jaw to the floor that Santa Monica Studios could make this game look so good and run without frame drops on a base PS4.

I liked it, definitely a return to form for the franchise after Ascension.

uh, YES! Still haven't beaten the queen yet. Haven't played in months RD2 has been keeping me entertained.
