It is a myth that bottled water is "purer."

If it's sterilized after being sealed/bottled, how could it not be? At least when it comes to the living variety of unpure.

Viper GTS

The "living variety" is not what people are worried about, since that is so very rare. It's the chemicals and pollution hysteria. And in many cases, tap water has been found to be far better than many bottled waters.

For most people, it all comes down to a problem with perception. Blind taste test them and they wont be able to tell a difference.

Hey, look. I'm a capitalist at heart. If you want to blow your hard earned cash on bottled water, more power to the companies. Good for them.

Me, I choose to be a smart consumer and refuse to pay more for my water than I do for gasoline or milk.

BTW, with all the money you spend on bottled water, how long would it take for you to have spent enough to replace the pipes in your house?

Bottle water go thru more and stricter purification process. There are standards regarding the purity of water set by government. And the standard is stricter for bottled water than for tap water.

Bullsh!t. Is your ass sore after pulling that out of it?

Dasani and Aquafina taste horrible. I would rather drink just about anything than Aquafina. It tastes like St. Louis' city water.

Wow am i just the opposite, i think Naya and Evian tastes like crap. I much prefer dasani.

ditto
1. dasani
2. aquafina
3. i dont care, arrowhead? o_O
4. and so on, you get the jist

That's not bs. google around for purity codes for water.

It's an apartment, and a very old one at that (as is typical for the area).

If it were my house I'd certainly replace the pipes, but since I don't own it & don't plan on living here long I'm not terribly concerned about it.

As for the amount of money I spend it's actually not that bad, a 2.5 gallon bottle I bought two weeks ago when the flooding started is still in my refrigerator, most of my drinking is done at work where it's free.

I also use a 5 gallon jug from walmart (when I remember to fill it), costs me around $0.30 per gallon that way.

Can someone explain to me how one bottled water can be "great" and the other "tastes like crap"? It's WATER. It's not flavored. I'm not talking tap vs. bottles here. At work we have Dasani and Evian in the gift shop, another brand that goes in the rooms, and our water dispensers are Poland Spring. It all tastes like *gasp* water.

You made the claim, you back it up with a non-biased source.

Different brands of bottled water does in fact taste different from one another.

Try some Fiji water. Terribly overpriced, but I stole some from my brother. Pretty good stuff. :)

But the tap water from the same location is also from those same springs. They are one and the same.

I'll buy there may be subtle differences in taste between them, but how can one be "great", but another "tastes like crap"? Seems like quite a swing for something that isn't supposed to have "flavor".

Yep, water can taste different because of "mineral" content or other impurities.

If you get used to one, another may taste "funny" (or "bad" if you're a picky little bitch). But if you switch, and get used to the new one, then go back, the old stuff will taste funny to you.

Bullshit, you sealed your own fate with Google! Here's an excerpt why bottled is worse
"Even when bottled waters are covered by the FDA's rules, they are subject to less rigorous testing and purity standards than those which apply to city tap water (see chart below). For example, bottled water is required to be tested less frequently than city tap water for bacteria and chemical contaminants. In addition, bottled water rules allow for some contamination by E. coli or fecal coliform (which indicate possible contamination with fecal matter) [WOW, you really are drinking shit!], contrary to tap water rules, which prohibit any confirmed contamination with these bacteria. Similarly, there are no requirements for bottled water to be disinfected or tested for parasites such as cryptosporidium or giardia, unlike the rules for big city tap water systems that use surface water sources. This leaves open the possibility that some bottled water may present a health threat"

Oh, and to the one drinking distilled water, you may be OK since it's not lab quality, but you actually NEED the minerals in normal water to LIVE! They're called electrolytes. If you drink lab quality water over a period of time it could kill you by leaching the minerals OUT of your body.

LOL, My point exactly. The differences are not that great. A new water source may have a mild funny taste at first, but it's something you'll get used to very quickly.

Some people are just too damn picky for their own good.

Like I said...I buy that. These guys are making it out to be like OMGIT'SSWAMPWATER!!!. ;)

I filter my home tap water through a Pur filter myself. My town's water supply is from a series of 5 wells, so the water is good to begin with, but they recently started jacking up the chlorine in it, so I started filtering.

I was just waiting for him to figure this out by trying to prove his BS claims.

Welst, it's OK. Just sit on some ice for a few days and your ass should feel better soon. It's gotta hurt after pulling that huge pile of bulls!t out of it.

I like Deer Park and Poland Spring. But if you gave me a blind taste test I would not be able to tell them apart. But if you gave me Evian I definitely could tell you what it was (I think Evian tastes like crap).

FDA article

Cliff notes:
1. Bottled water is regulated by FDA, while tap water is by EPA.
2. While standards for contaminants in tap water and bottled water are very similar. In some instances, bottled water has higher standards, such as lead level.
3. Standards for tap water apply to the water before they enter your house. The water that comes out of your pipe might have different purity level. While in case of bottled water, the purity standards apply to the water that enters your mouth.

You'd have to drink a sh!tload of water to get any significant mineral contribution from normal water. And no, distilled water does not remove minerals from your body.

Ah, a former soldier's memories of Evian during the late 80s in Europe. Compared to German tap water, Evian symbolized a gift from the proverbial gods at the time. In a five week period during the summer of '88, I lost 25 pounds on a diet consisting of Evian, pasta, German beer and veggies.

I agree with everyone else about the bottled water vs tap water debate here in the USA. There really is no difference. If the city of Houston - with numerous local oil refineries and generous quantities of nearby toxic waste - can successfully bottle, market and resell its own tap water, then we have truly succumbed to P.T. Barnum-style materialism.

Hey, it?s not my fault your sense of taste is defective.
