Why aren't people this outraged about the price of water? Ever priced bottled water? Some of the cheap stuff is $1 per liter.

Because I can get it from the tap for pennies on the gallon if even that. I can't get gas from the tap.

Why can't we all agree to switch to ethanol?

Cause then we'd just end up with a major corn shortage.

Corn ethanol is pointless because it takes something like .75 gal of fossil fuel energy to make 1 gal of ethanol. We'd need crazy amounts of hydro or nuclear energy to support corn ethanol. IMHO the corn ethanol ads all over TV now are just the corn farmers shitting themselves over the recent reports on how efficient switchgrass ethanol is.

You live 200-odd miles from work? Either that, or you drive something that gets awful mileage, and shouldn't complain about gas prices.

I like my bike...fun, reliable, 50+ mpg...

Filled up today at the lowest price I have paid in a looooong time. 2.10/gal, in NC which has the 3rd highest tax on gas in the country.

well since I am required to drive a pick-up because of said job....and currently working out of town, i will continue to complain.

Self - serve regular by me is $3.29 / gallon now.

A Chevron station nearby has regular at $3.49 / gallon.

please make it stop!!!

They are making an obscene profit at this point. I can see prices going up due to oil prices, but the recent jumps cannot be justified.

They have a captive audience and they know it. The government (I can't believe I'm saying this) needs to step in and clean things up a bit.

That's why something is wrong. There shouldn't be such a huge difference in prices if gas is "supposed" to be high. Consumers are being conned.

$0.20 difference is bull$hit.

Fair enough.

Wow.

The cluelessness in this thread is astounding. Please go and learn how the oil industry works.

I don't like the high prices any more than the next person, but.. wow.

When did they buy the gas?

Are they ($3.29) losing money on the gas like a lot of gas stations do?

Is the $3.49 in a better location that actually allows them to make a few cents like an interstate exit?

Don't blame it on gas stations blame it on a government that is in the pocket of the oil lobby.

The government doesn't set oil prices. The market sets the oil prices.

And give tax subsidies to Oil companies making record profits, you aren't that clueless are you?

No, but apparently you are if you think profits are only made by companies through the sale of gasoline at the pump. And apparently you are even more clueless by not knowing the difference between profit and profit margin (hint: the oil companies profit margin actually went down). And let's not even get started on how clueless you are about not knowing that corporations don't pay taxes, they just pass the cost of taxes on to the consumer.

Proof that margins went down? Margins were up 30% in 2004.

I believe him. My partners gas station is at $2.87. He bought the gas yesterday at $2.87. Not much profit there. Then he takes a loss after all the credit card users.
