To clear up some questions posed.

My cat is a little over a year old. I feed her iams or whatever that fairly good catfood is. I use the absolute cheapest litter I can find because its just sand that an animal is going to shat all over anyway.

We have a covered litter box. Its medium to large size. Our cat is quite small. The litter box even has a cardboard door with duct tape hinges that I made to shut when the stench becomes overwhelming. My cat goes under the door without any problem so I just leave the door down all the time now.

The bathroom is a mixed bag. The litter box could be fit into our small bathroom if the hamper was removed, but the bathroom is right the hell next to our bedroom. Aside from the fact I want the smell of cat turds floating into my bedroom as I sleep even less then when I'm on the computer its not to bad of an idea.

But the main problem with the idea comes from my cat herself. My cat is retarded. She barely understand the concept of burying her craps. Let me give you a run down on how an average dump works with my cat:

First, my cat waits until I am eating in the living room. She knows I love to inhale the odor of soiled baby diapers and old puke while I attempt to eat a snack for instance so she holds it in until she sees me chomping away.

Then, she gets in the litter box and downloads a stinkbomb. My cat is aware her crap stinks intensely, and to her credit she makes a sincere attempt to bury it. Unfortunately, for all her efforts its like she has no idea what burying something actually entails. Rather than using the fvcking CAT LITTER to cover over the offending pile of mini pot roasts she scratches away at any immobile structure or object that is within reach of the litter box.

She scratches the sides of the litter box, the door to the litter box, the wall next to the litter box, the carpet next to the litter box, the plastic litter liner bag (which is ALWAYS destroyed when it comes time to replace it) and the curtain that goes in front of the litter box as well in a vain attempt to make the smell go away. And she usually does this for at least 10 minutes and then returns after a short break to go at it again. I figure she got tired and thats the only reason she stopped. I can only assume she is under the mistaken assumption that the act of scratching at anything at all is suppose to make dirt particles spontanously appear from her paws and fall on top of her vile sh|t pile.

Its like she just doesn't know what she's doing at all, but through sheer force willpower she is going to just make it work anyway. I can't imagine what the hell she is thinking every single time she does this...she MUST know it won't work. Perhaps she thinks "It didn't work before...maybe I wasn't scratching that curtain hard enough or maybe I just needed to do it MORE!"

She did one time pull the curtain inside the litter box in an effort to cover the odor. A good show of ingenuity, however it did not really result in the desired effect.

: ) Amanda

Since I often take a dump with the cat in the bathroom with me...I think we are on even ground on that front.

I have never been to person's home that has a cat that has made it unnoticeable as far as smell goes. You may think there is no smell from your cat but you're just used to the stink.

Another trick is that it seems my cats will always go immedately after I clean the box, so perhaps you can clean the box 30 minutes-1 hour before you eat.

My suggestion would be to upgrade your litter. It does make a difference. I'm not saying go out and buy the most expensive stuff out there, but a good clumping litter might help. Don't go for that crystal stuff.

They also make a powder you can sprinkle in the box to make it smell better.
