Alcoholism is a disease. Would you blame someone with a lung disease that required them to carry an oxygen bottle around with them? How about a cancer patient with no hair, is it their fault they have no hair?
Same thing. Its not an alcoholicsfault he drives drunk, its his disease..........

getting drunk is not illegal. Putting others saftey at risk with a speeding and swerving 2 ton hunk of metal is. It is the disease makes them drink not drive. get a clue.

I'm not particularly fond of Clue however I do enjoy Monopoly.

LOL, undeserved? You admitted it yourself that you were going 80 in a 55...dumbass.

78 in a 55 (I rounded up when i told him i thought i was doing 80)

anyways, nothing wrong with going 80 in a 55, under proper conditions.
and why the personal attack all of a sudden by calling me a dumbass?, that was unnecessary.

78 in 55 is Reckless Driving where I live (VA) , you are lucky that you didn't spend the night in jail or lose your license for 6 months.

Eh, you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE doing less than 75 in a 55 on the LIE or any long island highway. 80 in a 55 isnt that bad when you realize you need to do 70 just to keep up with traffic.

you cant explain it to someone who hasnt been there.

Who is *required* to drive anywhere?

What is the legal limit and what did you blow? If you don't think the meter is accurate (because they can provide false readings) you should have requested a blood analysis. Granted your car would still be towed and you would have to go to the station, but it would clear your name and save you a fortune if there was a error.

IIRC, you can refuse a breathalyzer in exchange for taking a blood analysis.

I agree. If in doubt, *never* blow - they'll have to take you in for a blood test.

This serves two purposes - it gives you a little bit longer to sober up, and it's more accurate.

Well, it might have been faulty equipment. I hope it was.

Ultimately it doesnt matter. i walked so...

Long story short, I was 17 out partying. I was last guy to show up, so my car was positioned first to leave (Small driveway getting it).
Guy gave me a beer, I was about half done with it when everyone decide to go. Fair nuff. I got in my car, drank almost the rest of the beer, threw the can out the window and pulled forward. I went about 5 feet before a car came around the corner in front of me. It was the cop. Yay.

So, there was literally less then 5 minutes before I tok a nice big swallow of beer and blew in that meter.
Net result? .29. Oh yeah.

not only drinking and driving...but doing it underage...
wow...you must be a complete moron.
Laws were made to protect you and the people around you. learn to follow them or move to antarctica.

I know! I mean damn, I'm probably the only kid in all of America to drink underage!

Theres a lot of people who rape and kill and steal too...
the number of people who commit an act which is against the law does not make it any less wrong.

I just assume its the same thing anywhere. I mean, is there really a place in the world where the speed limit is actually a reasonable limit? 55 on an expressway is ridiculous.

Ill usually just drive as fast as I know I can safely do it. Ive done 110 plus on the LIE at 3 in the morning, because it was like a barren wasteland, and I could see no cars for miles in front of and behind me. Good times.

yeah i know what you mean but these folks live in the sticks. They have never been in real traffic and don't ever have a need to speed anywhere. Its just not part of their reality.

Ya, that must be it. People need to understand that doing 55 in a 55 around here makes you a giant road hazard. I dare you to try it if you have the balls. Every single car behind you will try and pass you in an angry frustrated way, and Ive seen enough near misses from people merging into each other because they get so frustrated behind the slow guy that they just jerk into the lane without checking their blind spot. Or someone trying to pass a truck on the right only to find out that theres a moving wall in front of them.

Not to mention the fact that doing 55 will get you tail gated SO BADLY that if you have to slow down for any reason whatsoever, especially considering that people are going to be merging in front/behind/into you in the right line, you will cause a pileup.

Did they have you blow right away or did they wait the mandated time? Breathalyzers are not accurate if taken right after drinking. Which is why the police might do preliminary tests out in the field (where you would get arrested and your car towed anyway [and in Oregon, a mandatory 90-day license suspension simply for being arrested for DUI]), but the actual test used for conviction is taken after a 45-60 minute wait back at the station. IIRC this is law in most states. Otherwise, if you drank only a single beer and blew right away it would be over the limit.

If you had a DUI you would of been taken to Jail and processed until you were let go to await trial. Funny the OP doesn't mention this significant event. SHENS.

You suck at drinking and driving, you need to hit the practice field.

I've got a perfect 437-0-0 record.
