so if I do vote, then I come back and b1tch about being screwed over, what happens then? Personally it seems like the outcome will be the same.

You think your vote has no affect? Why the hell are these candidates are spending such insane amount of money trying to get your vote then? You think you have no affect on policy? You don't think this country's foreign policy might've been a wee bit different with Al Gore as president?

Deomocracy is only as legitimate as its people make it.

Well if you don't vote at all, theres never going to be a candidate that you like, since the candidates wont give a sh1t about you. Why are young people being screwed over? Because they don't vote!

Exactly. YOU have the money and votes they need. Therefore, they either appeal to you or else they don't get your vote/money. Once they get into office it doesnt matter? Hell yes it does, they want to be re-elected. Not to mention the recall of Gray Davis..

Exactly. I have the money, and they mean to take as much of it from me as they can. All politicians are crooks, because if they were honest they would have honest jobs, and wouldn't be politicians. I don't throw my lot in with criminals.

Yes my vote has no effect unless I vote and convince others to do so as well. All you guys are asking me to do is vote, which will have no effect whatsoever on anyone else except registering as a tally for whoever it is I vote for. They are spending a lot of money, but I've already taught myself how to ignore commercials and advertisements, so their efforts have no effect on me. Yes, I think I have no effect on policy because like it or not, our policy is not completely determined by us. We have representatives, who we might not have voted for, who are telling the government what "we" want. If you think our government is not corrupt then sorry but you're an idiot. There's no doubt our foreign policy would be different with Al Gore as president, but I fail to see the relevance here. You're telling me that my California vote would somehow effect Florida?

Can you clearify this for me because I'm confused. Even if you hate all the candidates, you should vote anyways, otherwise the candidates wont care about you? How does that tie in together? If I don't vote, wouldn't that be a sign that maybe it's time for someone new?

If you don't vote, any debates you may participate in is moot so stop posting. Your point doesn't count because you don't matter, you didn't vote.

Well so be it. You still have the power, yet you choose not to use it. Crooks? Criminals? You don't have to give them your money, just your vote. And if you have that negative of a view I suggest you try to change the system by *gasp* voting for a reformist candidiate? Otherwise, stop complaining you lazy bum. :)

The reason you hate all the candidates is because they don't give a sh1t about you. First, if you vote for the lesser of two evil candidates (the one that appeals to you more), then it won't be as bad. (ala, the anyone but bush attitude.) Secondly, in the future candidates will have to take into account people like otherwise they won't get your vote. If you simply don't vote, then no it doesn't show a sign that maybe it's time for change. Rather, it will just tell the candidates "Who gives a fsck about them?" because simply you do not vote.

Just admit you guys are just a bnch of lazy whiners. Waaah waaaah. ;) Theres no reason not to vote other than for that reason.

If I can produce a "I Voted Today" sticker, can I start posting again? Please?

If I don't give them my money I get all my property taken away and I'm thrown in prison. The thing is, I never had any power to begin with. All the choices are the same. The Reformists are the worst of the lot. It's not that I have a negative point of view, it's that I just don't care, because it doesn't matter what I do. And I didn't complain about anything, until someone else complained about my non-voting.

No, don't give me that. I am only 1 vote. I am NOT 2 million votes. If I vote, it will not make the slightest difference.

This has nothing to do with anyone else.
And you then help convince others to embrace apathy, and voting of under-30 citizens stays in the gutter, and government continues to ignore you and pander to the elderly.

-or-

You vote, you convince others to vote, and together you make a difference.
how exactly does me voting convince others to vote?

I guess you're supposed to use peer presure. Let your friends know that voting makes you cool. Tell them how cool you are because you voted, and that they can be as cool as you if they vote too.
Yes, I am assuming that MAME has some connection, however tenuous, to other people in the world. And that MAME does communicate the "voting is for loosers" attitude to at least some of them.

thats exactly the problem...you and the other 2 million people with that same mentality.
hey guess what? thats 2 million potential votes wasted. :disgust: :frown:

I used to think like you 4 years back when I was 18. I told myself yeah statistically one vote wont count. blah blah...
Im 22 now and am registered and voted today. I do not know how you can still say that a vote doesnt count. Hello! Florida?!
Al Gore?? How he got ripped!? He got screwed out of his votes. He lost by what "3000" votes in Florida. Thats pretty damn close if you ask me. And its not only about getting your 1 vote in there...its about speech and the right to have a choice.
I dont know what to tell you...maybe one day you and other youths, (i assume u are under 30) will hopefully start voting. Until that day guess what? All those old men and women will their vintage clothes and vintage values to match will be the ones deciding for you.

yes that is pretty close. So if you're in Giorgio and didn't vote, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

gr1ml0ck - why don't you just admit that you have no convincing argument to make us vote. How about, instead of everyone voting for the lesser of two evils, we make everyone just stop voting, because why should we vote for any evil whatsoever? Wouldn't it be a much stronger sign to show that everyone hates the candidates enough to not vote for any of them, then for people to try to get others to waste their time voting for one evil or another?

With that thought, I hereby request that all ATers stop voting, because not only will this save you some time, but hopefully someday everyone will stop voting and politicians will change!

Doesn't matter now.

We're doomed for the next 4 years whether it's Kerry or Bush.

Why are you encouraging people to vote? The ones who actually know about the candidates and issues have probably already voted, and the people who dont have the initiative or time or whatever to vote probably dont really know that much. I'd rather let the people who actually care and know about things to do the voting instead of letting a bunch of idiots who dont really care decide the election.

I encourage people not to vote, so here's my pitch:

Don't Vote! Every vote you cast is an acknowledgement that you accept the way things are done in Washington. Imagine the message you could send if 200 million people refused to vote.

Thank you. This has been a public service announcement. You may now return to your regularly scheduled neffing.

Go Vote all you youngsters! Just a reminder.

Waste of breath and bandwidth. Young people love to bitch aobut gov't, life, and all yet do very little to bring about any changes. I guess they just like to complain......guess they've bought into very heavily all that victimhood crap and all.
