Its free, easy on the specs, and surprisingly fun and addictive.

Its basically a top down view online WWII RTS naval game, its not too complicated either. Think diablo II, not a complicated game, but it can be if you go and get bogged down in the numbers etc.

What you do is, you start off with a neutral nation ship, a frigate, and some level 1 crew. You join games and fight with other ships. Its awsome in the beginning cause everyone is kept at a certain level in the "noob" square where all the beginners games are hosted so you dont come face to face with a battleship when your still a frigate. Unless of course you want to. By hitting other ships you gain credits (for buying a better ship and upgrading your current ship) points (for getting new sailors, everyones always got an abundance of points) and lastly but most important experience (to level up your sailors). When you reach level 12 which dosent take very long, you get the choice of choosing one of four nations, these are as follows:

Royal Navy (britain) - Britains got some ok early game destroyers, their armor is the best in the game and their end game battleships are or were the best.

Kriegsmarine (germany) - The best destroyer in the game is from the Z99, every n00b has one of these to cruise around in, fun ship. Good torps too, not rivalling IJN but still decent.

USN (USA) - The second best destroyer is the DDX class from the USN, its pretty decent apart from it only has one torpedo launcher. Theyre really early ships are very good and people simply stick with the first USN ship they get and upgrade it until they can afford a DDX.

IJN (japan) - These guys are what people call TW's (Torpedo wh*res) This is because certain japanese destroyers have no real purpose other than to torpedo other ships. Their torps do more damage, go faster, go longer and they have more than any other nations ships. Very fun nation once you get a mid level destroyer and start torping everyone else.

I cant go into later game play as i havent tried it yet, the destroyers are tons more fun IMO. Generally better bigger ships win in battle (which can be up to 48 players) but skill is far more important. One last thing, this game is free until level 30, when you hit 30 you either pay for the game or get stuck with an experience penalty. I personally would never pay for it as its no world of warcraft, i just deal with the penalty (not sure what it is, think its 50% since im level 33 at the moment). So download it and give it a try! Im soviet779 on arizona server (theres two servers in the US and one in japan). You'll find me noob bashing in my Z99 :D

Download Links

EDIT: Download from here Theres an auto updater so you will get the latest patch as soon as you install and start the game.

EDIT: If you get 56k type speeds try downloading from HERE instead to get slightly less crappy speeds. Im getting 25 kbps with this link. beats 12kbps :p

Try to get version 1153 if possible as its the latest. Some very old versions cant actually be updated but the ones on those sites listed should be ok. I had the beta installed and it couldnt use the auto-updater to update, so as close to 1153 as possible would be best. Remember to join the ARIZONA server So that i may torp you at some point :p

edit: wow, before it was you got to 30 then had to pay.. if its just an XP penalty.. i think i could handle that :p

I played it a few months ago... I gave up because it kept making me play the same tutorial missions. I passed them, but I never moved beyond them.

The ones your forced to do? Yea it just tells you very basic controls.

Heres some useful info if youve never played before:

F2 = team chat or everyone chat toggle.
F4 = Different types of firing mode (try emm out to see the difference, gradual is useful with multiple torpedo launchers)
F10 = Control layout/options like turn off background music etc

Guns ending with a letter L are higher range, D are shorter but with a faster firing rate. Guns with no letter are simply average.

To get a buddy list, level a sailor to i think its level 6, and you turn him into a radioman, this radioman slots into the red circle in the bottom left, from here you can add buddies/join a clan etc. To form a clan or do more advanced stuff, you need a higher level radioman.

When you reach level 12 you get to choose a nation (optional) and get that nations destroyer 1.

You rarely lose money if you sell your ship (higher levels only need to worry about that stuff) With guns etc you get a 90% refund. Also if you sell your ship with your crew onboard its ok, your crew will appear down in the bottom right window just as if they had been removd manually.

If youve reached level 12 and have a nation ship with a bridge officer but you cant seem to get the officer to board the ship. You need to look at the bottom right corner of the officer and click the small button saying "shp" and select the ship you want him to command. But be careful selecting this ship is semi-permanent and can only be changed by a significant credit sum.

Last but important, you need to have 8 ships in battle to gain any exp.

Thats just some stuff i wish id known when i started playing. :)

Eh, turns out it's hardcoded for 1024x768 fullscreen. I suppose it would look pretty cool on my 42" 720p LCD though...

I downloaded this but had Prince of Whales and Bismark for the only server choices and nothing happens. I figured I may have enterd something wrong, so I removed the game and reinstalled it. Still those were the only two choices and I cant log on.

Is there another file somewheres I need to remove that the removal tool doesnt catch thas has this as my default server choice info?
