It might help if they did not spend a billion of bail out money on shoring up there Brazil plant and just close it instead.

The Brazilian factories are some of the most efficient and profitable that GM has. I doubt GM has a single factory right now that is making money, but the Brazilian plants are probably fairing better than most.

Keep repeating it, " 500 Million jobs . . ." and . . .

Bankruptcy should have been their first and last choice... instead, we, the taxpayers, wasted billions of dollars prolonging the inevitable.

yay.

If our government hands GM (throws away) any more of my fucking money, I may just storm the Capitol myself... :|

At this point everyone knows it's welfare to workers by another name. I don't have a problem with that to give some time and see if they can recover when our economy picks up again.

Chapter 11 will cost the government visa vi paying retirement benefits and medical much much more.

In other words expect bailouts of Big 3 through 2009.

Go to your state and other localities and fight for secession instead. You have a far greater chance of influencing 1 state compared to 50 states.

Hopefully the new company will invest in some loctite so their new cars don't rattle to pieces while driving down the road.

What an asinine response.

I agree, it's these stupid ass comments that get thrown around that have kept the domestic automakers down. Of the newer domestics owned by my friends and family I can't think of one that rattles any worse than an import, the Civic we have on the other hand is damn near falling apart.

Actually it's rattling cars that have them down more than imports. Although they don't rattle as much now, they used to in a big way. This is a lesson in branding and how slowly perceptions change and why the public has been so slow to forgive, but some domestics still do have lower quality.

If my money is bailing them out, why aren't they building those amazing factories here? Why am I bailing out Brazil?

Excuse me. We bought American for over 40 years . My wife recently bought a Altima. I told here I didn't like buying it. But what the hell I said are comanies are dieing anyway.
So it really doesn't matter. Yes it is nicer than our cars value wise. Most Americans new that along time ago . So they made what they precieved to be the Smart buy. But hindsight . Is easy. Forsight is posterity. So we(my family) now are enjoying that added value . Without having taken part in this . Another prediction fulifilled , Even tho A blind man could have seen this coming in 1977.

You put that Altima next to a 60's car. We take the sixties car any time. All this added BS turned out to be just that BS. Real MPG didn't increase that much . 20mpg was not uncommon. All the electronics BS, All the saftey stuff. I won't touch this one.

It was all BS to inflate cost of transportation. Because They can't stop a cycle . Something they now understand.

No way,
I'm guessing you've heard that form someone that heard that from someone? My mom collected all corporate amex cards from the execs at Ford's subsidiary two weeks ago. GM is doing the same, including BS like switching from mechanical pencils to regular pens and such.

Ask your mom if they took away gas cards away from people that drive company cars home.

What happens if you're laid off and you normally have a company car? I know when some are canned they are escorted out of the building minus all their stuff. Do you get an escort to the bus station, I wonder... because no car is driven harder than a company car by a person just laid off, I bet.

Because automating factories to that extent is impossible thanks to the UAW. ;)

Is that true? Think of all the high tech jobs that would be needed to run that thing.

I like to tell my Buick Regal story about this time... Keep in mind I will only Buy American because I like putting food on Americans tables because maybe they will buy something I'm selling one day. With Nationalism in Asia, which I happen to agree with obviously, that's not going to happen for the most part.

I had a $26,000 98 Regal GS with Supercharger it was just an awful car. Fell apart totally before 70,000 miles and sold it for salvage for $900.

All four windows stopped working cables broke or got tangled up
climate control computer need to be replaced twice @ $700 ea
leather fell apart
steering wheel fell apart, leather tore off and foam was chipping away
interior lighting stopped working
oil leaked and burned oil
Interior body panels came off - drivers door, under console
Interior blower went out

at ~70K I sold it for $900 to scrap yard

Basically worst car I ever owned.

It will take a lot to get me back into a Buick

With that said I've had a TownCar after that with 150K no problems before I got current one. And I have a 8 year old F350 with Diesel and 185K no mechanical probs whatsoever but cup holder is broke and map holder on drivers door fell off cause I rested my foot there, no biggies.
