The employee discount pretty much just takes care of the tax/title. So just look at the sicker price and that is about what you'd pay.
You're FOS.

It's thousands off MSRP. The best thing is you'll be getting the best price with no negotiating.

Yeah, I'm FOS. My dad works for GM moron, and he's bought ALL his cars (which is quite a few cars) with the discount. The discount USED to be really good because you could talk the salesman down and THEN drop the discount bomb on him. And even ON TOP of that you'd have the GM credit card which had built up GM dollars on it that you could apply toward a new car purchase. Well, it's all changed. You can't talk the salesman down anymore. It's either the discount or the saleman's quote. The discount pretty much covers the tax/title, maybe a little more. Don't believe me, go buy a new GM car with the discount and come back and talk to me.

2005 Equinox LT FWD

MSRP: $21885.00
GMS: $19657.44

Thank you for proving me right genius. Add TT&L to the $19,657.44 and you'll see it comes REAL close to the sticker price (MSRP). Am I still FOS?
I guess I went a little over the top there. I apologize. But those amounts do vary greatly on a state by state basis and sometimes by county also.
Tax = 6% in Michigan
You're not FOS.

we were going to take advantage of one of these with Mazda... and it turned out that we would be able to get a bit lower if we actually negotiated. So we did... I put my authorization# away and started dealin'. The thing is - with these "employee deals", there's no negotiating allowed... whatever is the set price with discount against the MSRP is it. Nowadays with the Internet, we know the invoice of cars... so salesmen have little room to mark-up in the first place... and we have the upper hand if we can actually negotiate against the invoice.

We get discounts on a lot of other companies like Ford, Nissan/Infiniti... these employee plans aren't all they're hyped to be. Just more incentive for employees to purchase their employers' products. IMO, negotiate as a regular customer and if you're any good, you'll get the best price. Go with these employee offers if you just want a no-hassle purchase at a nicer-than-joe-schmo's price.

I don't know. I was going to look at the sticker on one but I fell asleep while walking over to it.

That is one plain car :(

You know, I'm glad you posted this. I have suspected this was what was actually going on. These dealers always seemed too anxious to sell a vehicle at the employee's price.

I think I'm going to take a Buick Lacrosse CXS out for a test drive this week.

I don't think it's ugly. Text

BTW-I've always gotten the employee discount.

I don't think they're ugly either. I'm far from wowed over the styling though. One thing I don't care for is the fake woodgrain in the interior.

My guess is it's a lot of car for the price, expecially with heavy discounts. I looked at leasing one, but the payment was more than I was willing to pay.

I will have to agree, unless they are offering ton's of rebates also. I am a GM supplier and none of the dealerships would even give me the supplier discount program cost for the truck I wanted. So I ended up getting a better deal on a Ford. F250, Crew cab, 4x4, Diesel, Long bed.

It's a certain percent off the invoice price. I think employees get 35% off of the invoice price. However, what the dealer does is find 35% of the invoice price (or whatever the percenatage is), and that's how much of a discount you get off of the price he sets.

You can still get screwed.

GM Employees/retirees can actually find out the price on a GM website. They then can request a voucher to go get the car at a local dealership. My granddad retired from GM so I can get his pricing. Can get a new Corvertte for less than $38k

Hmm. I could use a new cargo van for my business. I guess I need to visit my local GM dealer and get an employee price quote and see if it's cheaper than fleet pricing. Thanks for the head up.
