Global Warming Scientists Trapped in Antarctic Ice

I thought this was kind of amusing. Apparently there are a bunch of global warming scientists on a research ship trapped in the ice the last several days. They were there to retrace Douglas Mawson's exhibition of a hundred years ago to "discover and communicate the environmental changes taking place in the south".

Unfortunately for them, the area they're stuck in now was ice free 100 years ago. Ah the irony of it all! What's also interesting is that MSM hasn't been reporting this amusing but "inconvenient" truth. Media bias?

Would it be even funnier to you if they died? How does them getting trapped in ice prove anything? Wait it doesnt.

Nothing to see here move along..

First, A video has been found from 1912 showing Mawson landing in ice free Commonwealth Bay in 1912.

Second, current conditions. Antarctic Sea Ice has been above average for two straight years now, set its all time record high last year, and came very close to it again this year.

It has been two standard deviations above normal for at least the past four months.

Also, your link itself is from a Reuters article, which is about as 'mainstream media' as you can possibly get. I'm certain that you know that global warming will lead to increased ice in certain areas even as global temperatures as a whole increase.

The myth of media bias really is a hard beast to slay when people are so committed to believing something. It's like a religion.

If global warming weren't melting the ice caps, then they wouldn't have broken off and fallen into the sea... trapping the research vessel, and the rescuing icebreaker.

Amusing? It's freakin' hilarious.

I'm certain a new Ice Age would be proof, to you, of Global Warming.
That's the beauty of the global warming theory. Everything that can possibly happen, including nothing, proves it.

I bet the progressives snuck in and added dozens of mainstream news listings after the fact to hide their evil bias. I hear they edit Wikipedia in order to trick people about the definition of words too.

It's important to remember that the progressives are always plotting. Always scheming.

The hilarity does not actually depend on media bias.

Eskimo, you never answered my question in the dmcowen thread about gasoline prices, perhaps you could here. Do you want oil and gasoline prices to rise so we use less, creating less "carbon" and thus helping fight global warming; or do you want cheaper oil so poor people can better afford to heat their houses and drive to work?

I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.

Thanks for the links. I've read several articles regarding this which did not address the nature of the research...but still haven't found any MSM articles picking up on the irony of the story.

Is CNN considered to be MSM? Because I've seen them report that about the trapped research scientists.

Confirmation bias?

This is about the closest to what actually happened. Apparently the OP believes that the water just froze around the ship. In reality, very high winds pushed pack ice up against the ship.

Oh, I didn't see your question.

I want the price of oil and gas to accurately represent their total cost to our society, which includes their carbon footprint. If doing so negatively impacts the poor, you subsidize their purchases. No more freeloading through negative externalities for pollutants though, that's just bad economics and bad public policy.

More than anything though I want us to fund alternative energy sources in order to make them more price competitive with oil.

Shouldn't the poor just use public transport to drive to work instead of driving their 5 seats cars alone? Also, I think a lot of work could be done at home instead of the office eliminating the need to commute to work entirely. It should be beneficial regardless of how wealthy you are.

ps. many people don't realize how cheap gasoline actually is in the US in relation to average wages. See how much it costs in Europe.

Nope, just always lying. Thanks for the example.

You forgot that in progressive thought, buses don't count as public transportation - it's light rail or nothing. I like your line of thinking however, income limits before allowing car ownership might be worthwhile to consider.

Not so much plotting and scheming...however twisting the world into a progressive paradigm just seems to come natural for them. Kind of like NY Time's recent article on Benghazi involving months of "investigation" which still unbelievably reguritates the false WH talking point that the incident was "fueled in large part by anger at an American-made video denigrating Islam". MSM bias is real.

Are you serious? Progressives are big fans of all public transportation, buses included.

Usually I can tell where the straw men are coming from, but this one is frankly baffling.

I just watched a documentary "chasing ice" They outline this issue, you have glaciers melting due to warming, and seasonal freezing due to just natural weather cycles.

Oh shit its cold with no warming going on here.
Meanwhile you have glaciers the size of small towns falling into the ocean.
