Global Warming has already attracted a dogmatic following of true believers, so the answer to your question is no.

There is SCIENCE BEHIND IT. I'm not talking about man made global warming, which is in the air, I'm talking about how the climate is rapidly changing.

Yes there is a science behind it...but those who believe the science have assumed an almost fanatical religious stance in denouncing those who choose to engage in scientific debate, or challenge the theories surrounding the SOURCE of global warming, and what can be done to prevent it.

Climate change is a very real cycle that is part of our planet's continued evolution...mankind's impact on climate change, and what we can do to prevent change that would make this planet inhospitable to our species, is open to debate.

name-calling? if someone thinks that global warming is a religion, they're stupid. christianity is a religion, buddhism is a religion, taoism is a religion, islam is a religion... global warming is an event; very different from a religion.

the science is out there and almost everyone in the scientific community agrees that global warming is occurring. if you deny it, you're either ignorant, stupid, or believe that there's some kind of agenda behind the push towards environmentalism, conservation, and alternative fueling.

That is the real crux of the issue. The problem is not the GW deniers, all 3 or so of them. The problem is those who already insist that GW is caused by man and are wielding that dogma around as if it's absolute and undeniable truth. The only truth at this point is that we just don't know. There is valid science and there are good arguments on both sides of the issue but no science on the issue has come out as the definitive and final conclusion, yet.

Heh and ironically I find people who claim to be agnostic or non-religious excitedly jump in with the man made global warming faithful professing anybody who doesnt believe to be "deniers". Deniers is nothing but a label for the unfaithful. They either need to be converted or shouted down and eliminated from the noise about MMGW.

actually, global warming is real. people believe the earth is warming much like they believe that falling objects will eventually hit the ground. gravity exists, as does global warming.

religion cannot be proven by science. that's the difference for all you yo-yos who think global warming is a religion (i can't tell if you're stupid enough to actually believe that or if you think you're being funny).

IMO trying to liken people who believe in science over faith, to some sort of "faith in itself - equal to a faith in God" is just never going to stick. It can be tried over and over again but it is just two totally different things. Someone who only believes in things they can see, touch, measure, and are tangible.. is exactly opposite of someone who believes in something based solely on the belief that whatever happens, good or bad, acknowledged or ignored, is God's will and that we can do nothing to thwart his master plan for humanity.

Glad to hear, but my observation was in no way my personal indictment of your own beliefs, I tried to make it generic. Just saying I hear it often in debate from people like those I described above. Most people imo have a healthy balance between faith and science and can judge things for themselves. At least I hope they do.

Your science doesnt wholly backup your theory. Thus you have to fill in the rest with faith. Then toss in the agressive manner in which MMGW believers try to convert or shout down with predictions of death. It has all the tell tale signs of moving past science, sliding by political, and right into religious.

there's a difference between being someone who is still on the fence about it (plain ole doubter) as opposed to someone who outright denies it. even then, you've gotta have a reason for the doubt. what's your reason, besides the fact that you see mainly liberals who acknowledge that global warming is real.

it's not fear mongering... fear mongering = "ZOMG 9/11! TERRORISTS! THEY HATE US FOR OUR FREEDOM! WAR! WAR!"... not "ZOMG! THE GLOBAL WARMING IS HAPPENING! LET'S TRY ALTERNATIVE FUELING AND CONSERVATION AND SEE WHAT THAT DOES!"

it just seems like those who are denying this climate change and the science behind it (combination between historical cycles and recent human consumption and pollution) are denying it's existence for some reason. i want to know why... is it because they're just ignorant to the science behind it or is it that they think it's some sort of global liberal agenda or something? it's just hard for me to understand how anyone could deny global warming or at least figure out why people who are experts in the field acknowledge it's occurrence.

no where in this thread did i say anything about deniers of man-made global warming. i said global warming. there are people who are denying global warming.

the difference is that i don't care if the jury is still out on man-made global warming or not and i don't wanna risk finding out, because then it just might be too late. personally, i feel there's strong enough evidence to support the addition to global warming by man and not enough against it.

what's so wrong with conservation or alternative fueling? what's so wrong with trying to save the environment? what's so wrong with trying NOT to find out whether or not man-made global warming will fuck us over or not and being preventative?

To repeat, I've seen science change it's mind too often.

I think it's (GW) is still a "work in progress".

Wildly vacillating predictions - 20 ft rise in coastal waters, no wait 2 inches! etc.

Examples like temp data stations being operated incorrectly (AC units under the thermomitors etc.).

Diff scientists argue over the science, or what it means. (Causation & effect of CO2 levels, leading or lagging indicators etc. The degree of the effect of additional CO2 levels etc. ) What's a natural temp cycle (cold/warming cycles in teh past Iceland/Northern Europe etc.)

I AM concerned about pollution, just not for the reason the GW people are.

If not, I'll be starting a whole slew of threads with titles like, "Democrats: Wouldn't being a democrat make you stupid or ignorant?" or "Tree Hugging Hippies: Wouldn't the world be a better place if they were all dead?"

Am I missing something when it comes to what is acceptable and what is not?
