Yup, the "end of the world" thingy goes back to just after Christ's death.

There is a theoligical term for that "movement", I just can't think of it ATM and am too lazy to google it.

But I prolly wasn't clear. I was referring to the belief that the end is just around the corner. That teaching among Christians popped up just after Christ's death. (Crap, still can't think of the term either.)
