Giving Cyclide a Try

I'm going to try out this website: http://cyclide.org/index.php

From about 17 to 22 I competed in triathlon. Nothing overly competitive, just an age grouper having a good time of it @ the olympic distance. I placed in my age group here and there, but ended up shelving the sport due to a combination of reasons. The largest reason is that I apparently am extremely prone to shin splints and calf issues.

I saw a physiotherapist around the time I decided to give it up just to try to get back to full health, as I was having constant pain whenever any weight was on my legs. Pain was located on the inside of my lower leg, above my ankle spanning about four to six inches. At it's worst, the pain was constant, and almost unbearable to simply stand. Walking was excruciating. I was dumb, no doubt.

Here I am now about five years later with the itch to get back out there. I haven't had any symptoms since I was given the green light from the PT years ago, but I also have avoided contact sport. I'm (more than) a few pounds heavier than I was so I'll be taking it slowly. Need to get new, proper shoes too. Cyclide caught my eye because it creates a workout plan, and then adapts it based on how your perform. This was my biggest downfall when I was competing - knowing how to train - because I was young and solo and didn't have the discipline to craft my own appropriate workouts. It's also quite affordable, at just $2.50/wk.

Does anyone have any experience with this tool or a similar one? I'd appreciate any insight into it, and of course I'll post my feedback down the road.

It doesn't support the uploading of a GPS file, that I'm aware of. The kind of thing you might pull off a Forerunner or the like. Otherwise seems pretty good.

not much help to you, I figured if God wanted us to run, we wouldn't have cars...

besides, you can't flex cardio

A bit over my first week back running, and I must say that I'm pleased with Cyclide thus far. It's doing literally exactly what I wanted it to - tracking what I am able to do while planning out my workouts. It's neat to see the adaptive planning actually work and shift based on how I do, though with just a week in there really hasn't been much movement in the plan yet.

As for me, after my first run very mild posterior shin splints started showing up. I have been stretching like crazy multiple times a day and have added some basic physio-type exercises to strengthen a few target muscles. I'm now able to stand on one leg on three stacked pillows for two minutes. The shin splints are gone and I'm feeling great. Down 4.4 pounds since this time last week too - diet & exercise does work.

Really looking forward to getting my endurance up a bit and doing some longer runs!

Do you roll the bottom of your feet? Get a bar or a rolling pin and roll the bottom of your feet. This helps with calf issues.

As long as I have enough to play a bunch of sets in Tennis I'm good to go. I use to love sprinting but hated running/ jogging 😛
