To correct a misconception, you can run RC5 and SETI@HOMe at the same time. If you use the screensaver version of SETI, it will turn on when you're not using the computer (set the screen to blank to maximize the SETI power).

When you are using the computer, the screensaver turns off and RC5 starts to work.

Is the cracking process pretty consistent with speed???

Because i just did some of the tweaks that paulson made up and it seems as if im crawling right now like .10% every 5-10minutes.

It seemed like it was going way faster before i made the changes.

Im pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with those tweaks... just wanna make sure that its working to its full capacity.

Tulkas:
Base RC5 speed is tied to the speed and core type of your cpu.
Your out put is determined by your base rate MINUS other use of your cpu.Performance killers:3D screen savers and 3D games.

See this for base rate: http://teamanandtech.dhs.org/speed.asp

Welcome aboard.:D

Hmmm, if one runs SETI on a dual processor machine then they'd get SETI on the primary processor and RC5 on the secondary processor?

Tulkas, I think you have to update the buffers.. it should do it automatically when you're on the net. how many blocks are in the buff-in file when yuo look at the RC-5 client?

Jonny! Thanks for joining, your help is appreciated greatly!

oh Madrat, it seems that you could be right about Seti using one processor, and RC-5 using another... that would be interesting..

Okay guys, I have it installed, apparently I have to wait a while before I can join team Anandtech, but I will do asap.

Once thing though, I have the distributed.net client window open. I THINK Iam done the first work packet, now it says that 1 cruncher has been started. However, nothing is happening in the window, I see that my cpu is being used 100%. So, is it working?

Sorry, Iam a bit of a rookie at this.

Jonny: Yes it is working. Watch it for a few minutes and periods should start being displayed on the program screen. Depending on the size of the block you are crunching, it could take awhile to complete a block.

To all the NEW members -

Thank you for joining! Team Anandtech thanks you! There's a close friendship between all who crack for Anandtech over in the Distributed Computing forums. If you have any questions, feel free to post them there and many of the "senior crackers" will answer them promptly!

Tulkas -
You need to add this to your dnetc.ini file

[misc]
project-priority=rc5=1, ogr=0, des=0, csc=0

That will boost your keyrate substantially.

Yes, definitely get rid of the OGR! The ini entry that Dan just outlined tells it not to work on OGR blocks.

<< Because i just did some of the tweaks that paulson made up and it seems as if im crawling right now like .10% every 5-10minutes. >>

If you changed your packet size to 33, it will appear to be moving more slowly because it's munching larger packets (more blocks), but it is actually a tiny bit faster, and the buffer files will be smaller.

Tulkas, thats just RC5 running. Before, you were working on a OGR packet, now you're working on RC5 Packet. :)

sweet job guys.. I'm thinking of creating another thread when one of the current 2 dies.. this one telling people who were running before how to get RC-5 back (using Paulson's website of course for instructions!) running.

and then after that, I'll create a thread saying something like this..

who here DOESN'T know what RC-5 is?

Another option, which makes it a lot easier for new members, is to just join a mini-team. Russ (One of Borg) has TA Cube, Paulson has his own mini-team, and I have a small, but growing mini-team called The Maniacs. If you want to join, but don't want to go through 1/2 of the hassle of dnet, you can just enter the email id for the mini team you want to join. For The Maniacs, use the id tom581@yahoo.com and configure the client (use Paulson's page), and bingo, that's it.

RC5 is EASY. Most people don't know this. RC5 is easier to use than most programs you have on your computer, and can help out Anandtech more than you can ever imagine.

I have a couple more Questions guys!

I think i may be sending and recieveing the same packets???
22 of 22 and 32 of 32 are appearing over and over....
Is this possible?

Also i get my password tonight(i think its been 24hours) so all the work that i have completed so far will go toward the team i choose correct???

DPC of course ;)
