<spits Pepsi onto 17" monitor>

I'm taking it that was sarcasm. j/k :p

Don't worry if the packets being sent back and forth are the same amount. Packets consist of work units, also known as blocks, which is the main foundation for cracking RC5. The more, the merrier. As long as you're sending packets and getting them after a good amount of time, then you're not doing the same work. It's good to set it to have a certain amount of hours worth of work if you're on dialup, as you won't be on 24/7. Paulson's guide should show this.

Sometimes a given packet will contain many work units [blocks], and other times, not as many. Either way, it's doing the same amount of work. Once you get your password (you must request it) you will be set. Yes, everything you've cracked will go to TA.

I just set it up earlier tonight and it's crunching away. I just read both Paulsons and Russ's recomendations and set it up to only do RC5 and now it's flying. Thanks for all the help. Will join Team Anandtech as soon as I get my password sometime tomorrow. Am going to set it up on my other system that runs 24/7 and let it run all the time but I will have to manually connect it to the net on that machine to send and get the packets as it's a BBS computer and online all the time. If this all works out I have 2 other machines I can get to crunching offline and connect them to the net through my network.

I love this new editor! Great job Zuni!

Update: it's now on both machines and working great. The main machine has uploaded at least twice now. Can't wait to get my password and join Team Anandtech! The RC5 bug has already bit and bit hard! :D

yeah don't worry too much about the exact time when your password will come. it will. Dnet is often a bit off on the times..

all your blocks that you've cracked WITHOUT a team go to a team when you sign up. if you were on another team, the blocks that you cracked for them, stays with them, and all new ones go to your new team.

BTW interesting stuff on this newer forum.. it might prove useful. though it'll take some time to get used to...

EDIT: I don't like that new smily.. it sucks IMHO.. also, I don't like the replacement of that small menu at the top and bottom. they were just fine there, but it's ok this way too..

ahh! somehow DPC jumped to 270,289,031 blocks up from around 250 million from yesterday. I look at yesterdays stats, and I don't see ANY reason for this. (cough Cheating Cough) they only posted 4 million yesterday blocks..

BTW, this means that they are now 5th overall, setting sights of 4th, then 3rd, then Anandtech. 4th is the russian team (they will go down before the end of next week), 3rd is Evangelista (it will take them a while to reach that level) and then us..

man we need to get our own people working again..

Actually, I think their megaflush is over now. So they will drop ALOT in the dailys. They'll still probably be ahead of us, but it won't be NEAR as bad.

which is why we still need to increase our cracking power back to full damnit!
