korea is a tweener nation.

not anywhere near the average income of the industrialized nations like US, Japan and some of Europe (all over 20k / year / capita) but way above the so called 3rd world countries.

Koreas Annual Per capita income is around 12k.

Acutally it's closer to 20k and the Annual Per Capita is not a good representation of a nations economic status, but I do agree its definitely not at the level of the United States of parts of Europe. 🙂

We been together for 1 year. Her getting a visitor's visa doesn't really do anything fo her status, so I would say yes, she IS using me for my brains. ^^;

How long have you been apart?

infrastructure (internet connections) and gaming culture are not the ONLY things that define whethor or not a country is "3rd world" or "developed nation".

korea is no longer a 3rd world country based on a per capita income figure, but neither are they in the same class as the "developed" nations.
ok, point taken.
but then the question would be how to seperate the "status".
i thought first world is technological, second world is industrial and third world is fvcked...
so i would put korea (only the south😛) in the status of a first world country.
oh well, nevermind...

i'd say it not impossible. The reason i say it's possible because my friend gf from Malaysia was approved for visitor VISA and actually came here last month without any problem with the immigration. My friend, he's phd student and i dont think his income is alot.

Go ahead and apply for visitor visa, gud luck!

Heh I don't know her friend... I don't think I ever met her, probably some broad she works with or something. *shrug*

You are facing an uphill battle. The fact that shes out of school will make it next to impossible to get a visa at her age. If she was older, established, family, steady good paying job, then she could get a visa. But like you said shes 24, to the US, she is prime canidate to flee korea and stay in the US ilegally.

Also remember if she gets denied several times, it will become a Perm ban into the USA. And if you two decide to get married, and get a fiance visa or a spouse visa, the perm denial will look bad for her and they might deny that visa also.

The thing about financial support someone said, thats only for a fiance visa or a spouse visa. They want that so they know you can support her and not have her go onto welfare once she enters the US.

good luck anywayz in getting the VISA.
I've got a friend having the same problem,
and can't think of a solution to get her to the US without problems.. 🙁

actually the politically correct terms are Developed nations and Developing nations. the whole 3rd world stuff was deemed DEMEANING.

so the question is: does Korea fall under Developed or Developing. Parts of Korea, Seoul etc is looks developed to the western eye, but if you check out the country, not so developed.

so i really do believe Korea to be one of the few nations that is a TWEENER nation.

Singapore, Hong Kong, and the other so called small dragons are a LOT smaller than korea. some of them are more city-states anyway. Korea with a population of about 47 million is more of a complete COUNTRY with infrastructure, industrial base etc than a city-state like Singapore or Hong Kong.

Try to see if she can come as part of a tourist group with pre-planned activities/itinerary and plane tickets. It might help to show that she aint staying, but different US Embassy operates differently, so no way telling.
Alternatively, she can always go apply to one of those English Language Institute thats offered by many colleges. She will have to take some classes for a certain period, but this way she can comes in via I-20/SEVIS.
Final alternative? Apply for K visa for fiancee 🙂
