the best part about that is you're trying to sound witty while you're pegging the wrong stuff on the wrong guy.

Oh get over it, he's kidding. That's from the L Word on Showtime.

Anyway, I am looking for both a male or a female roommate right now, but would prefer a female one for several reasons:

Less likely to break my stuff.
Less likely to tear things up while smashed.
More likely to be able to afford the rent/less likely to skip out on it.
Greater potential to have attractive female friends. (Though dating one could go south pretty damn fast)

Though at this point I'd rather have a paying male roommate that misses a month or two than none at all.
Kidding or not, he did it for a reaction. This is called trolling, and it's often seen in young, neglected children. They feel that bad attention, which is easy to get, beats no attention.

I think no matter what there will be some kind of sexual tension that it always messes up the dynamics of a friendship.

Well there is a way to turn that off you know. I can't believe you all are this clueless.

I can not speak for everyone here...

But I, for one, do not consider castration a good choice.

If it worked for you, more power to you.

guffaw he haw haw haw haw.

alkemyst pulls away from robert paulysen and thinks hes got chops. well, just be careful 'coz you'll get a fafafatter neck then you already have.

Most women would have more trouble getting turned on in the first place by the average ATOTer...

You might be able to at the beginning but time and friendship wears on you. Unless you don't plan on even being friends with your roomate.

we will be together as roommates for 6 months

we will from time to time fly to philly and dallas for more work training.

i do not want a relationship and i dont intend on "hitting it" either

since we are working together and living together as well i'm afraid it might start to be a very annoying situation. possible?

this is strictly a way for me to save some money and to have a friend while we're both away from our homes. (we are moving from seattle to denver)

i have seen her in some of my college classes and recently met with her for some coffee to see if it would work out. she is very interested in being roommates and from first impression seems like a nice person as well

this is my first time with a roommate as well if that makes any difference

should i lay down some ground rules?

Depends completely on the person -- either gender could prove to be a horrid choice. Can you get a hermaphrodite? 😛

yes. my roommate and I are coworkers. for awhile, we were working the same schedule, which meant that I was with him for about 16 hours/day. I nearly killed him.

now we're on different schedules and life is good. I see him for about 30 minutes/day during the work week, and maybe 2-3 hours/day on our days off.

should i lay down some ground rules?

not so much lay down some ground rules, but it's helpful if you talk about things before moving in. discuss how things like cleaning, cooking, buying food, and doing dishes will work.

my roommate and I each buy our own food and cook for ourselves. we still argue about the cleaning and washing of dishes sometimes, though.

just make it mutually agreeable that there will be no overnight guests.

during my third year of college, my roommate, unbeknownst to me, leased out his half of the room as well as the living room (which was a living room at the time) to two girls for the summer. both asian sorority girls from berkeley, albeit a white sorority. so i ended up sharing a room with one, which was kind of strange for the first few weeks. she had a bf so that was never really an issue. the other one wasn't my type at all. but once, they invited 5 of their sorority sisters over for a pool party (since we have a pool on the roof) and that was an interesting experience. no, i didn't go swimming with them.

i would have preferred to have known about this ordeal beforehand instead of being surprised with it, but it ended up working out. both were considerate girls and kept to their own.
