IDK how effective this will be selling razors, but it's triggered the conservative SJW as all fuck.

It hits too close to home for them to like it at all. They see being an asshole as part of their manly essence. It's the source of the liberal tears they love so much.

Maybe Speedy can return & show 'em how it's really done...

That's an enormous load of hate to carry around all the time. Doesn't it wear you down? I'd have depression trying to live like that.

Hardly. I pity the chest thumping fools. They're thinking with the head of their dick instead of the head on their shoulders. This whole culture war is a lot like what Goering said about war in general-

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/war-games/

Trump & the GOP identify the enemy as internal, as Libs & minorities, as the institutions of democracy itself. And fools will follow because they're confused & afraid.

Dudebro spotted on a Tinder date:

On the tinder date in the coffee shop I’m at the dude said, “I get where it was coming from but I think the Gillette ad went too far” and the woman said “I think this date is over” and walked out unceremoniously and now he’s sitting here alone with his patriarchy looking stunned

If you're mansplaining the Gillette ad to a woman while on a date you're more interested in scoring a point than scoring. In this case his result was a score of zilch...lol!

Whew - That guy dodged a bullet saving himself from a lifetime of misery and half of his future CEO paycheck. Good job.

It's fucking Tinder, you might as well call it PlentyofFish or "I go here to bang dumb whores"

EDIT: And god damn this woman is dumb as a box of rocks.

I don't think he pondered on his comment before posting. Future CEO such a piece of shit that he's turned down by a "dumb whore". I look at it as a woman who let a dudebro know that she isn't as stupid as he thinks she is.

I am no where near a conservative and pretty liberal on social issues and support #MeToo, but this commercial still annoys the crap out of me. I have no idea how anyone sitting around a conference room table thought this would be a good business decision.

FWIW, I almost always think companies should stay out of politics and political things, even when they agree with me, so that is one reason it annoys me.

But seriously, someone could make a similar ad with a bunch of stereotypical black behaviors and then talk about how "some" black men aren't dealing drugs and "some" black men raise their own kids. If that happened every single person in this thread defending this ad would rightfully have a cow over it, but for some reason since it is directed at all men it is a good message.

Just imagine @Jhhnn coming in here "Black people hate it because it hits too close to home for them. They see being deadbeat dads and using drugs as part of their culture." Generalizing and stereotyping any group is wrong, even if it is a group that generally holds power.

Black men? Just reverse the genders and make it on what women can improve on and see how that goes lol.

You can talk shit and rub men's faces through the mud, but women can do no wrong of course.

Yeah, I was going to write it that way, but I couldn't think of any good women stereotypes.

That is the sterotype of literally everything in the media. Men are dumb worthless retards that go to work and bring home a paycheck. Women are intellectual goddesses that can do no wrong.

Think of any TV show that is comedy based with a family. The dad is always ditzy retarded (equivalent of a blonde stereotype), the mother is always rolling her eyes and practically annoyed of him but "loves him for his stupidity" type of feeling.

SNL just had a skit "Leave me alurn." It was pretty fun, but it also showed annoying crap women have to put up with, without making it into "ever guy is an asshole." I personally think that approach is much more effective.

While I've never thought of using the words "toxic masculinity" to describe some of the guys I've known throughout my life, they do exist. I've lived in conservative cities and communities for all of my life and these guys are everywhere. If you're currently single but have been married multiple times and your ex-wives remarry once and are happy, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If your spouse waits until the kids grow up to leave the house to dump your sorry ass, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If your wife has to apologize for your rude MAGA behavior in a public place, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If you're trying to score political points on a first date, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If you're a religious conservative and you marry and knock a woman up with six kids and then dump her and the kids for another woman and another shot at it with only one kid this time, you've probably got a toxic attitude. I could go on doing this all night and you morons will keep denying that men like this are a problem.

Toxic people exist and all this commercial is asking is for guys to step up and be better. The horror.

I don't think anyone is saying asshole men don't exist. People are upset at the generalization of all men people like that. Being a man doesn't automatically make you an asshole and the majority of men don't do the things you described, and there are plenty of women that do shitty things too.

Rewrite your post about women or blacks or any other group and you'd realize how prejudice it is.

I'll stick to the topic at hand, you can wander wherever you want. Note that I did say "people", not just men. Note that the commercial did not depict all men as toxic, did it?

So go for it and divert all you want, I'm not interested in bullshit.

I'm not sure what you think this thread is about, but it is the topic at hand. It is a crazy prejudiced commercial, that is what this entire thread is about. Just some people, like you, think it is okay to generalize 50% of the human population based on what a small sub-population do.

Here I'll rewire you post for you:

While I've never thought of using the words "toxic feminism" to describe some of the girls I've known throughout my life, they do exist. I've lived in liberal cities and communities for all of my life and these girls are everywhere. If you're currently single but have been married multiple times and your ex-husbands remarry once and are happy, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If your spouse waits until the kids grow up to leave the house to dump your sorry ass, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If your husband has to apologize for your rude feminist behavior in a public place, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If you're trying to score political points on a first date, you've probably got a toxic attitude. If you're staying at home while your husband earns a living, then you fuck your gardener because you are bored, you probably have a toxic attitude. I could go on doing this all night and you morons will keep denying that women like this are a problem.

Toxic people exist and all this commercial is asking is for girls to step up and be better. The horror.

Seriously. I know you think it is somehow fine because it is okay to be prejudiced and stereotype men right now, but this is literally the same attitude people had in the 50s against women and African Americans. Maybe we should judge people by the content of their personal character and not but their color or sex.

Seriously, you must have failed standard debate class. Go home little boy. At the very least, seek a fucking source that can define strawman you insignificant twat.

What a major fucknut you are, I judged them by their character and what I know that happened in their lives, not by the fact that they were men. You're just upset that they are men. You might also note that I'm talking about all men, not just black, brown or white as individuals. Some of these assholes I've known were white, some brown and some black. Same with the ones I know now. In addition I can point you to numerous conservative sites where they do exactly what you want me to do; single out people of color who have screwed up and call them all kinds of names. Men who are assholes aren't just white so take your color argument and shove it. Nobody except for the whiny men are saying that women are saints or the like. Nor is the commercial calling all men toxic, as one moron said above.

The commercial is asking men to be the best they can be. You and those like you don't like the message and can't say anything against it without looking like assholes so you instead attack the messenger (the commercial).

Let me be clear, I didn't watch this stupid ad, and I have zero desire to.

I could care less for the razor company's opinion on what ever the F they were trying to comment on. I absolutely refuse to spend any brain power analysing and getting engaged and or enraged over this.

Anyone that does, on either side, I would question what you have going (or not going) on in your life that you want to spend your time on this. It's just the dumbest thing ever, and I don't care what the razor ppl have to say about anything.

I will marvel for a minute (and totally agree with your post) from a business prospective how this decision got made.

My guess some gaggle of fuckwits saw what Nike did with Kap and thought they'd try their luck at it. But with razors. Oops, they missed. Good luck trying to scrub that off the resume.

Next time just try to be funny like Geico or old spice. WTF.

Think of any TV show that is comedy based with a family. The dad is always ditzy retarded (equivalent of a blonde stereotype), the mother is always rolling her eyes and practically annoyed of him but "loves him for his stupidity" type of feeling.

I guess The Simpsons fits that template.

I think there's a bit of truth in this. Adverts are also quite keen on the 'husband is an idiot and the wife holds everything together' trope.

There's also a way in which they are quite keen on showing men having violent accidents but much less keen on putting women in that role (maybe less so than a decade ago).

But I don't see that as privileging women or as discrimination against men. It's way more complicated than that.

These ads (and the basic-format sitcoms) are more-often-than-not created by men.

And the tendency to see men having violent accidents as funny, but not if it's a woman, is related to male attitudes more than female ones. It's men who will laugh at such things. In fact my impression is one only started seeing 'women falling on their arse or falling down holes' as a comedy trope with the advent of feminism and more women comics writing their own stuff. Turns out some women find that funny as well, the sexes are more similar than we thought. And not finding it funny is also spread across both sexes.

And often its feminists who object to things. Like an ad here a few years back that showed a woman repeatedly slapping her husband during an argument in a shop as if it were no big deal, till someone pointed out it was making light of domestic violence and the advert was pulled - that objection wouldn't have happened without feminism.

And the 'husband as useless ditz who has to be managed by the wife' comedy trope is not actually particularly helpful to women. You could argue it's bad for everyone, infantilising the man while also normalising and making light of women having to take all the responsibility. (The Theresa May/Boris Johnson effect*)

Adverts and sticoms are rarely at the forefront of social change. The Simpsons has always seemed to me to be a deeply conservative show (its about a two-parent family who go to church!). Personally I see the Simpsons as representing the more pleasant wing of conservatism, as opposed to South Park which comes from the libertarian frat-boy wing (never liked South Park, it's sneaky in how it isn't quite honest about its right-wing agenda).

* though that particular comedy double-act has the extra twist of the responsible adult woman turning out to be just as incompetent as the feckless man...May being the grown-up one, but still hopeless...which in turn reminds me of Laurel and Hardy...but my mind is wandering now)
