Haswell will be a bit faster but likely it'll have a bit of a premium. OP will be happy with his system.

Thanks Guys, You are seriously the best! I ended up getting an i5 3570k, a MSI Z77A-G41 Motherboard, an additional 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 660ti video card, all for only slightly more than what the 7970 or 680 would have cost me. Plus, I can now sell my old MB, Processor, Video Cards, And RAM to make up the difference. Kick Ass!!! So now my system will be as follows

Intel i5 3570k
16GB DDR3 1333 RAM
660ti Video Card
OCZ EliteXStream 1,000w Power Supply
Sabrent 4 Port USB 3.0 Card

YAY!!! I'm not in the stone age anymore! YabbaDabbaDo LOL

Might have overdone it a bit on the PSU, but congrats!! 😀 I <3 my setup which includes the 3570k.

Sell that old gear and get ya a sweet sweet monitor

Anyone have any solid recommendations on a good quality monitor. My computer desk area really can't fit anything bigger than a 20" monitor. A higher resolution though, Would probably be more than sufficient.

um how about a bigger desk then...

a 20 inch screen is downright tiny and will only have a 1600x900 resolution.

If I stay with my 1600x900 monitor, Would it pay for me to upgrade my 660ti to a 680? I currently have an Asus DirectCU II OC Edition. And I saw a Zotac GTX 680 for only $80 more at $344 when I paid $263 for my 660ti. Would I really see any FPS increases at my resolution? Or would it just be a total waste of money? Thanks!

Yeah the 680 will be faster, definitely - but it depends entirely on the game in question. I think most games will be so far beyond the vsync that you're speaking of 200 vs 260 fps 🙂 Anyway, That is an INSANELY GOOD price for a GTX 680. I'm inclined to say if you can still get it, get it. That's cheaper than what most forum marketplaces are selling the 680 for, used. Very very good deal. Heck, I would buy it before someone else does - surely a 340$ GTX 680 will sell fast.

Just to point out, also, that the upcoming GTX 770 is actually a slightly higher clocked 680, so you're pretty set for a while with a new GTX 680. It's hard to say no with a price like that, as well.

your monitor choice is very important for daily use and gaming. a tiny 20 inch screen is a joke for productivity and especially a gaming pc. who cares how fast your pc is if the end result is looking at games on dinky little screen. get a decent desk and go with a 23 or 24 inch 1920 screen.
