It's also completely false.

'1 in 2.04' chance? someone either made that up entirely, or doesn't know how to read the numbers on this stuff. The probability of 2006 XG1 impacting the Earth is currently at ZERO, I believe, although it has been a non-zero probability in the past (i.e. it has to be acknowledged as 'possible,' but that in no way means at all probable).

It's non-zero now because I haven't fired up it's guidance thrusters yet...

Even if it were to hit I'd be an old bat and would have 2-3 marbles rolling around upstairs so I wouldn't care or might welcome the excitement!

Please. No. Twenty-seven years of updates only to have yet another prediction not come true?

Giant asteroid possibly on collision course with Earth

If astronomers are right, all life on this planet could be extinguished in less than 30 years from now. Scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have detected a large object the size of Manhattan possibly on a collision course with Earth.

The asteroid is calculated to have a potentially lethal encounter with the Earth on March 35, 2041. Astronomers have placed the odds of an impact at 1 in 2.04, which is by far the most unprecedented risk ever faced to humanity, let alone from asteroids. Such an impact could potentially end civilization as we know it.

March 35? Gotta lookup the word gullible.

I recall hearing something like this, I don't remember the date or anything but it was probably that.

I'll be 55, so I'll be near death anyway. Maybe another 20-30 years to go if I have an average life span. By then 10 years will go as fast as like 1 year. Older you get, faster it goes.

Either way I'm not too worried. Predicting something that far leaves plenty of room for error or changes that can happen such as an earthquake or other event on planets/moons that can alter the course of the earth or the astroid. By then they may even have a plan in place to stop it from happening. Heck they probably do have a plan now, it's just very top secret.

as the old saying goes ...

Thirty days have September,
April, June, and November
All the rest have 31,
Except for February.
and March 35 2041 when we're all done

I never noticed that line was even there before
but now it all makes sense :(

Middle aged ain't close to dead for most people and 20-30 years is still a damned long time for anyone regardless what point their looking at it from. Its like saying you're not too far from birth right now. Umm, yeah, you are.
