I'm looking for real hole in the wall places for good cheap authentic Mexican food. I don't care about the decor at all. The ghetto-er the better. I'd prefer it if the clientèle was close to 100% Mexican. Some of the best Mexican I've had was in Tuscon... pozole at a small run down place that had plastic chairs and tables and that had a front door that didn't lock. Sonoran style hot dogs in a place that was basically a tent with the chef singing old world Mexican songs. Amazing stuff. Throw any cut of meat at me. Stomach, tongue, rocky mountain oysters, head meat, whatever.

Oh man, you're absolutely right. I see this food truck parked outside of the Food City next door sometimes and I keep telling myself that I need to hit it up one of these days. Ok, it's been put on the list of to-do things.

Googled it and couldn't find it around Phoenix. There is one in CA though.

If you can, try to find a Filibertos... there are a few around and for $6 you'll get a 2 lb steak and cheese burrito that'll knock your taste buds out.

Thanks. I'm so frickin' sick and tired of the interns that I'm hanging out with. Not willing to experience new things and appreciate different cultures. Always staying away from the more authentic Mexican places. Always looking down on them. Never willing to try anything but your standard cuts of meat.

There's a place near McClintlock and Apache called "La Salsa" that has THE BEST breakfast burritos I've ever had. They're like 2 pounds of fresh chorizo, peppers, potatoes, and a fresh salsa bar. Great fruit smoothies blended there on site too. I asked for a Coffee and got a styrofoam cup and they handed me a jar of folgers instant coffee that was probably as old as Juan Valdez himself.

That place is probably one of the most "ghetto" shops that I've been in. I'm sure you can cruise through Guadalupe and find something too ;)

I've seen a place called Polibertos.... is it the same thing? I tried Polibertos and it was just ok. Clientèle was a black hood and a huge Mexican guy both decked out in tattoos. It was awesome.

?

no... it was in downtown Phoenix... but that could be an offshoot... It was really good, you could buy a whole bag of tortilla chips for like 99 cents that were salty and freshly made right on site.

Pretty much everything they had was awesome.

Note: this was about 4 years ago, don't even know if it exists any more...

It's not really a dump, but Los Dos Molinos was one of my favorite Mexican places. Hottest salsa I've had at a restaurant. There's one on Alma School and Broadway on the Tempe/Mesa border and another off of Centra at the base of South Mountain in Phoenix.

Chevy's, Pollo Loco, Taco Bell, and Del Taco should all be pretty authentic mexican. :)

I have been in Mesa 4 times now...SomeBurros was talked about hadn't been there, but there were a lot of family restaurants I did go to around Stapley that were awesome.
