I just got a 06 Xterra and love it.

Test drive and see how she feels in different cars. Different strokes for different folks!

My aunt has one of those. I have nearly as much interior room in my Saturn Ion...ha-ha!

The Liberty is a terrible vehicle. It weighs over 4000lbs and gets the gas mileage of a full size SUV.

So, Envoy gets my vote. Take a look at the reviews and you'll see they tend to agree with me.

The Envoy is probably the ugliest vehicle GM produces. I was driving behind one, hungover, and that vehicle was seriously contributing to my nausea.

I love the look of the Envoy and Trailblazer. THose are truly great SUV's but also WAY overpriced. Not a good choice if you ask me based on price alone

And the reliability of a 1990 VW.

You can get a nice used TrailBlazer for under $20k.

Both of my parents own suvs right now. My dad owns a 4runner and actually makes use of the trunk because we own a restraunt and haul a lot of stuff from costco/sams. The 4runner is a 99 model and is a pretty nice suv. The leather interior really does make the car seem more refined. For just driving around the 4runner would be a waste for most people.

My mother owns a 2002 honda crv. We got that new for under 20k because she wanted it pretty bare. Its a much better car for getting from point A to B then a 4runner would be. Ive driven both of my parent's cars and the crv drives more like a car then the 4runner ever will. All in all the crv is a pretty good car, also has a little pep to it.

If your girlfriend doesnt need to haul anything but still wants a suv (mom wanted her's to feel taller) i would suggest one of the smaller suvs like the crv or rav4. Both are those are pretty similiar.

We test drove everything in the class last year before buying a honda pilot.

The envoy/trailblazer could not seat 3 humans across the back, despite having 3 belts😉
It also had some serious sway, the kind that scared the crap out of my wife. I'd grab a handful of wheel at speed, and it got REAL unstable. It did have a nice ride though.
The Suzuki, yikes! Crappy mileage for such a smallish interior.
CRV, I got an eyeful of visor, I sit high in the seat.
Toyo highlander was close, but the seat was inferior IMO.
All the subes, I love em but too cramped in the front seat area, not comfortable for me.

The bottom line is going to be the test sit/test ride. She may be very comfortable in the subes, and they are fine. The new RAV4 looks very interesting too.

You can get a nice used TrailBlazer for under $20k.

Don't buy new, regardless of what SUV you get. Remember that SUVs are high profit vehicles for all companies.

Go see a used dealer in your area and ask about buying an SUV at auction. They will typically charge you much less profit since they don't have to hang onto the car forever until they make their money back.

I got a one-year old Tahoe that came off of a lease. List was $45K, and I paid ~$28K. It only had 16k miles on it. If you want to spend $20k (include tax in your budget), you can probably get an SUV that costs ~$30K list new.

Test drive a bunch of new SUVs to see which one you like the most, and then go looking for a used one that is 1-2 years old.

Thanx!!!

My old boss owns two Honda CRV's and loves them.

He loves them, bought them used (they were lease turn ins) so they were 2 years old when he got 'em.

Been running them now without problem for 3 years.

Okay... The OP's girlfriend checking in here....

I dont want a station wagon!

I want a vehicle that is going to give me room for 3 kids and a boyfriend... and have room to transport baseball equip.... Marching band equip... and stuff to do projects around the house. I had a 9-passenger wagon once... HATED IT!... I dont want one of those gas-guzzling monster trucks that you see on the road, just something small-to-midsize... around 20K... RELIABLE(and "cute" just cause im a girl:shocked: )

and thanks to those who have given some good advice....

Anyone here have the Kia Sorento or heard anything about it?

What about Saturn Relay ?

I suppose it's a minivan, but with the longer hood, maybe it's considered a crossover ?

I think it has 3 row seating, which is very important to the people I know with more than 2 kids, or grandkids.

I've heard lots of good things about the Sorento. There's at least one member here that has one.
Oh, and like I said before, station wagons kick ass. What did you have, one of the old american land beasts? My mid-size wagon has room for everything you mentioned.
