Eh... I wouldn't say the information in this thread on classes is wholely accurate :). But it is a good start and should get you going on whichever class you choose. Warriors are not gimped.

I played a Night Elf hunter in OB for a little bit, a Dwarf warrior to level 16 or so in retail, and am now focusing on my Tauren shaman at lvl 22. I think the hunter is ok, the warrior was not so good, and the shaman is a lot of fun. Most Tauren seem to pick shaman or warrior, and most dwarves are warriors or paladins and some hunters. I think the gnomes seem to be mostly mages. This is just based on what I've seen and read, others may disagree.

Now, as for choosing Alliance vs Horde. You may want to check the offical Blizzard forums for the realm you are going to play on. From there you can find out what the community is like on that server, lots of kids swearing, good comraderie, etc. Also, you'll find if one side is over-powered. For example, I am on Mal'Ganis and the Horde seems to outnumber the Alliance. Especially with the Goon Squad guild having a 800+ members or something like that. crazy if you ask me. I currently am Horde, but not in a guild.

I think PvP is a little stressful, but interesting. I chose it because I like the idea of raiding and battles with other players. Unfortunately my only experience so far is getting ganked by a high level mage the other night... :( What I don't like is how it's easy for someone way above you in level to run you down and kill you repeatedly and ruin your game playing experience. Yes, it happens, and it's a bummer. So if you don't want that, then don't play a PvP server.

Anyone suggesting that Priests are "in high demand" look at your numbers and try again.

Priests need some love, much love.

My friend played a Priest to 30 in retail and deleted him because groups would prefer to have a Paladin or a druid in the group, simply becausse the paladin can SPAM a BETTER heal than the priest can do.

Priests are NOT the best healing class, they dont do much damage [You can do some alright damage if you go shadow, but then your heals are even worse]

On my realm [Bleeding hollows][PvP] horde outnumbers alliance heavily, at some points in the day 2:1.
Gnomes are by far the rarest race, making up less than 1/8 of the population. [How do i know this? I run the census addon for cosmos often, and have a friend doing so for the horde]

Pick a Dwarf Priest if you want to be the least common type in the game, but be prepared to spend time looking for groups :)

Paladins are NOT better healers than priests. Priests are the best pure healing class with druids in a close second. Paladins can do everything else much better than priests, but they can't heal as well.

Priests get:

Heal (Rank 3) @ lvl 28
4 second cast
Heal your target for 670 to 762

Power Word: Shield @ lvl 30
Instant cast
Instantly shields the target, absorbing 294 damage. Lasts 30 seconds. While the shield holds, spells will not be interrupted by damage.

Flash Heal @ lvl 32
1.5 second cast
Heals a friendly target for 327 to 393.

Paladins get:

Holy Light @ lvl 30
2.5 second cast
Heals a friendly target for 491 to 553.

p.s. I've never been in a group where a priest wasn't welcome. They are a good addition to any group afaic.

hhahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha.... breathe.... ahahahahahhahahahhahahaahahah..

Wow whatever crack you are on... you really and I mean REALLY need to put it away before posting this uninformed crap..
Priests flat out pwn.. and are VERY highly needed in any PVP/PVE group..
thier mana/heal ratio is far better than other classes thier AC buffs are priceless and resses are way better than palys or druids...

They arnt a flashy character with worthless gimiky abilities they do what they need to do and that is all..
Shadow Spec priest flat out rules for PVP....
and for regular healing with a heal spec they flat out destroy anyone elses heal line...

Gnomes are very popular with the PVP crowd especially the caster and rogue community..
with the ability to never be rooted with EA and the extra int from the caster ability.. they are a VERY formatable force...
sounds like you picked a server with a bunch of freaking newbs that all want to be rogues hunters and warlocks..

Funniest wow related statement ever...
I still cant breathe im laughing at you so hard..

I like how it seems most people think thier class/race is the best. It dosent really seem like people are unhappy with what they are....

not much longer to wait:)

Despite all the whining you hear, Blizzard has done a really good job balancing the classes. Some classes are slightly more powerful than others (i.e. shaman vs. warrior) but for the most part, none of the classes are truely bad. Most of the whining can be attributed to peoples poor playing skills. Any class is good if you learn how to use it.

Im a rogue not a priest.. i suck at being a healer but that dont make the class suck =P
priests are awesome if you have the mentality to play a support class.

Well, I'm not going to comment on whether priests 'pwn' or not, but you have a few mistakes above... :

1) Priests don't get an AC buff usable on others, that's druids. Perhaps you meant stamina buff ?

2) Their mana/heal ratio is actually only slightly better than other classes for the most part. For reference, the most efficient single target heal ratios at level 60 for each class are : Priest 2.8, Druid 2.74, Shaman 2.5, Paladin 2.38 ( or 3.1 if the target has blessing of light on them). Yes, that's right, paladin healing is more mana efficient than priest healing if they use blessings. Of course, that doesn't have much impact as priests have far more mana than paladins do, but it's interesting nonetheless*.

3) While it's true that healing spec for priests brings better returns than healing specs for the other three healers, 'flat out destroy' is a bit of an overstatement of the reality ( Priest 3.8, Druid 3.2, Shaman 3, Pal 2.7/3.4 )

It is, however, undeniable that their ressurect are way better than those of paladins or druids, although it is worth noting that the druid resurrect can be used during combat, whereas the priest one cannot.

* For the technically minded, numbers discussed above are derived from the most mana efficient single target heal each class possesses, quick reference below, based on the average damage of said heal adjusted on an assumed 5% chance of a critical.

Priest - Greater Heal 4, 960 mana, 4 second cast time, heals 2397-2764
Druid - Healing Touch 10, 790 mana, 3.5 second cast time, heals 1890-2230
Shaman - Healing Wave 9, 615 mana, 3 second cast time, heals 1367-1561
Paladin - Holy Light 8, 580 mana, 2.5 second cast time, heals 1246-1388 + Blessing of Light 3 - Adds 400 points to holy lights used on target
