One is developing in our shed.. on the sliding door.. i didn't notice at all.. just thought a couple bee's flyin around followin my in. 5 minutes later, i turn around and there it was, the beginings of them building a hive or something. this happened before under our deck, but w/ wasps. They seem to be doing something to our little outdoor "cart" too (has doors, and we just keep stuff in there for storage).

Question, any way to get rid of these w/o getting attacked? There were only two of them swarming around the little hive in the outdoor shed (3 in the cart, but haven't checked to see what was exactly inside yet). Any way to prevent this?

Thanks
Linh

Yep, that's the stuff. Just don't use it inside, it'll stain your walls (found out the hard way).

I've knocked them down and I've used the spray. I've found that when you just knock them down they come right back sometimes. Spray it good and they stay away from the area for good.

We used to have some yellow jackets building their nest on the corner of our house at the very top. A BB gun worked well, shoot it, run inside, come out 10 minutes later, shoot it, run inside, repeat as necessary.

Wait till the evening time when they are less active. Use the Raid stuff and sok that nest. Then come back about and hour later (let them settle some) and knock the nest into a plastic garbadge bag. Double or triple bag that one and you have a good bunch of dead wasps.

Hot Shot Wasp & Hornet Spray. Just used some tonight. Kills the bastards on contact, kills any eggs in the hive, and keeps em from coming back. Works from at least 15 feet away cause that's how far back I was.

This would also be fun... But you would have to figure out a way to get the M80 close enough to blwo the thing apart...

Beast1284,

They fit just about right in the entrance hole to the hive, and normally it's strong enough to hold it in place until it blows.:D Just one of many insane things I did when I was young.

I suggest impaling them one by one with toothpicks, shouldn't be too hard... ;)

Mosdef, awesome! just throw an open box of toothpicks towards the hive, they will all fly out by themselves and they will start plopping on the ground! voila! little orderves!

You can get a yellowjacket trap...it's like a tube that you can hang up near the nest. It consists of a tube, an entrance that's only one-way for yellow jackets (they aren't all too bright :p), and some sort of pheromone in a liquid packet that attracts those things like crazy. My uncle had a yellow jacket problem a couple years back...a couple weeks of the tube and they were all gone...all three tubefuls of them (yuck). Use that to get rid of them then knock out the nest a couple days after...voila. :)

We had one of those in my back yard. It caught like 3 yellowjackets, the 3rd one being a fatass and clogging the entrance.

If this isn't what thermonuclear bombs were made for, I don't know they WERE made for! ;)

Seriously, I've used the outdoor wasp spray many times. It shoots a concentrated foam like substance about 20 feet or so. It kills them on contact and kills everything inside the nest.

They're more sluggish in colder temps. So if you're supposed to have a cool day, do it then, or wait until night like someone else suggested. Any yellow jackets I've ever had have always built nests in the ground, so I would just flush the hole with gasoline. Hornets (which might be what you've got) build nests, and look similar, so go with the raid suggestion. The trap isn't a bad idea, or, look at one in the store and build your own from plastic pop bottles. Bait it with something sweet smelling. Faygo pineapple-orange works great, cause it smells sweet. Any kind of fruit-flavored soda should work, really.

Yeah I'd say a nice flame thrower would be sufficient.

Or a General Electric GAU-80 30mm Gatling Cannon. I just don't think you can hold that one in your hands since it has a 70HP motor and all...
