this was the problem:

Well, the first part of the problems are..

Determine whether each binomial is a factor of x^3 + 3x^2 -10x -24

1. x+4
2. x-3
3. x+6
4. x+2

what is the process though which I have to go about to solve each of these?

I jsut told him to use synthetic division and plug in each appropriate x value. If he gets a remainder it is [not a zero/ not a factor/not a solution if =0]

for example, in the case of x+ 4, use synthetic division by using "-4" since when "x+4=0", "x" must equal "-4"

Everything in math besides addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication are useless unless you're a math teacher youself. Quit now :p

When will schools learn to stop wasting time.

I'm in B3 and find math to be easy. Now if I could only stop slacking I might get a good grade instead of a half-way decent grade.

Edit: And after all that New York is finally going back to the Algebra, Geometry, etc. courses.

So I'm guessing Algebra 2 is the easy stuff?

The average where I live is

9th - Algebra 1
10th - Geometry
11th - Algebra 2
12 - Pre-Calc / Stats & Probability

That is average here, too, but no one does average unless they are below average.

My program at school was:
8th - Algebra 1
9th - Algebra 2
10th - Geometry/Trigonometry
11th - PreCalculus
12th - Calculus

That was the 'advanced' track. That being said, it was different for everyone, but pretty much followed the same path, with a bit more emphasis on Geometry for those in lower tracks.

that was our norm as well, although i and about 30 others took algebra in 8th grade and geometry in 9th

Alot of the kids I knew did this:
7th- Algebra 1/2
8th- Algebra 3/Geometry
9th- Trig
10th- PreCalc
11th- AP Clac
12th- AP Stats

Some of the geniuses did AP Calc in the 9th

I've got an 83% average this semester in Advanced Algebra 2, and thats with no studying, almost never doing my homework, etc. I slacked off on all that this semester, but next semester should improve :).

What online sources are there for help in Algebra 2?

make a friend in the class....get them to explain it to you....in my experience hot girls really love to teach the subject if you ask them nicely and not drool over them, on them, or anywhere around them...might kill two birds with one stone.

edit:::not making assumptions you don't have a girlfriend or you can't get chicks...just saying it's a good way to get help.

I know that, but was it the same as PreCalc at your school. Did your learn PreCalc stuff.

ROFFLES. I took algebra 2 in 8th grade (California standards).

Washington has Integrated Math, which combines many math subjects into 3 levels. After that it's either AP statistics or Pre-Calculus. Then Calculus.
