Ok, I was shopping today for a new TV. I would like a larger screen, HD, widescreen. I have 3 different in mind, all with different technology.

First up, Samsung 42" DLP HDTV $1689 plus 10% off at Sears - price match plus
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product....subcat=38+to+51+inch+TVs&vertical=ELEC

Next is a 47" Samsung Projection TV/HDTV $1199
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product....d=05754055000&subcat=38+to+51+inch+TVs

Then is a 42" Plasma from panasonic $1374
http://www.visualapex.com/plasma/Plasma...chPartNumber=TH-42PWD8UK&MFR=Panasonic

Then at circuit city, they have a Phillips 60" on sale for $1424
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Philips-...m/oid/114788/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

which one would you choose?

What I want is to possibly run HDTV, but not a requirement. Wanting to have a big widescreen for DVD's, XBOX PS2 and the new XBOX 360 when it comes out. I might possibly do a gaming machine if the tv has DVI. Help me choose. Whats the best thing to look at?

What I should add is I want to spend $1500 on a TV, can you guys help me get the best deal for this?

I personally wouldnt go with a plasma, too many downers.
CRT projection also isn't very nice
DLP is your best bet for what you got if you want quality IMO

good luck

oh, and the reason for the hate may have something to do with your avatar..it is the typical one that spammers/trolls/general baddies use.

and what exactly are the "downers" of the plasma? There are just as many to DLP and LCD.

I don't think the rainbow effect, which i have yet to notice is an issue.
also they degrade in quality quicker
He doesn't have a true LCD TV in his list. They are very good, but very expensive. He obviously has his budget. I've heard numerous ppl say that the quality on DLP is better than LCD, but I won't comment, as I haven't compared the two.

Exactly, I would go Plasma before anything, this has been discussed at length in the video forum and the concensus is Plasma > DLP > LCD as far as PQ is concerned, they all have downsides but none is more promonent then the other.

It's just some n00bs TV, no need to get all defensive...

guys, seriously, I am here to find out what the best thing would be

Personally, I'd go with the Plasma. They all have "cons", but for the money...i would consider that Panny the best of the bunch. It's all subjective though. You need to go view these in one place with the same source going to all. Thats about the only way to tell.

It's small, you can put it on the wall. I think it has one of the best PQ's of the bunch.

I didn't mean to be defensive. It's just that people who don't know what they are talking about or only know outdated information, feel free to give advise here and that helps no one.

Get the Panny plasma.
Pannys are well regarded, have VERY deep blacks and high contrast ratios.
Also, plasmas do very well with standard video and also upscale well for HDTV, even though resolution is only EDTV.

In one of my may A/V magazines there was a in depth look at plasma and they said it take the most electricity to run per inch of screen. I think that panasonic has some of the best plasmas around, although my favorites of them are the higher end models
