Dentist: "Wadded Beef, so you won't be scared, I'll show you some of the tools I'll be using. This is the scraper, this is the poker, and this happy little fellow is called the gouger. Now the first thing I'll be doing is chiseling some teeth out of your jawbone. Hold still while I gas you."

my friend was at the dentist recently and got to use the gas, he says the more gas they use the more fun the experience...lol

The happy gas is awesome, I was flying the whole time. But the surgery itself sucks I could feel them breaking and prying at the teeth, and the gas didn't kill all the pain. It didn't help that I discovered my allergy to perkaset in the next 24 hours too . Nothing beats recovering from wisdom teeth surgery without pain medication and such severe nausea over the next 24 hours that you can't even drink water.

It's not too bad. I did it under local anasthesia only, because I'm not a pansy, and it was an interesting experience. Of course, it kind of sucks for a few days afterwards, because you get REALLY sick of the taste of blood, and you can't drink anything but water and juice for a couple days (I recommend papaya). Then you have to EASE your way into soft foods, then harder foods, and the whole time you're cramming pills down your throat (well, a few pills a day at least). Don't rush it, it's very painful to have a hard bit of food jab you in the gum back there, however tasty it may be.

if you don't get the gas do you still get the nausea? the pain i can handle, it's the constant nausea that i really hate

i read elsewhere that it's the painkillers that cause the nausea, is there something that won't cause nausea, or something to ease/stop the nausea? (no i don't wanna smoke weed )

I dunno, the nausea wasn't really that bad for me, but I imagined at the time that it was caused from swallowing all that blood.

I was never actually about to throw up, however. Just somewhat nauseous.

i got food poisoning or something (i suspect it was carl's jr., stay away from them btw!) when i was about 14 and was throwing up for 2 days straight. i was too nauseous to do, say, or THINK anything. couldn't sleep for those two straight days either, i think this is why i have a fear of barfing lol

Mine was virtually painless. You know why? I iced the fvck out of my mouth the day of and the day after. I literally put ice in plastic bags and rubber-banded them to both sides of my face and left them there all day. I ended up only taking 1 vicodin tablet and was good as new. Yes, you swallow blood for the first few days and your teeth will bleed like crazy when you brush them, but it's no big deal.

I didn't have anything resembling the horror stories some people tell. Just ice like it's your birthday and you'll be golden. Good luck bro.

My tolerance for anesthetics and narcotics in general is such that I kept waking up in extreme pain. In fact, it turned out the only reason I nodded off at the beginning was not the anesthetic, but because is was 6:30 A.M. I woke up as soon as they started chiseling on the first tooth.

If I recall correctly I was doped up on four different things, one of them being a local anesthetic. Still kept waking up and trying to kill them now and then. Good thing the chair had arm straps.

the actual op was fine (i had a general- all four came out, and roots were so long it was a nasty job for the dentist) but he bruised the fvck out of my gums and it took ~2 weeks for them to heal- you really crave a steak after that

I had intraveneous anesthetic that knocked me right out. So the surgery only seemed to last a couple seconds and I was awake again. Everybody does it differently though. On the ride home I was pretty much passed out, so when I got home my mouth was full of blood and I just let it all spill out on the pavement, and there's still a stain to this day.

Having all your food taste like blood and not being able to open your mouth beyond a 20 degree angle is what sucks. The pain can be tolerated with the correct medicine, whatever you use though don't take too much, you don't want to have to vomit with 4 holes in your mouth that won't let you open your jaws to maximum vomiting angle.

As for swelling or bruising, my face didn't show any sign of either. The guy I went to did a very good job.

I had mine pulled using local. It was weird listening to the dentist cheerily explaining what he was doing as he drilled one in half and removed in pieces because it was impacted at a strange angle.

My jaw hurt for about a week after that. I didn't suffer any nausea, though.

what should i do before and after the procedure? i would think that i should eat a fairly large meal before the procedure since i can't eat anything beyond jello for the next few days. I prefer pain over nausea, so should i go easy on the drugs afterwards? also what kind of foods/drinks are good to eat after getting this done?

Good to hear, I have one wisdom tooth grown at a very strange angle, I thought about getting it removed - but my dentist said only surgery, and she doesn't do surgery

I only had to have teh bottom two taken out. They gassed me then knocked me out with a IV. Like a previous poster, it felt like seconds then i was awake again. it didn't hurt too bad after the Vicodin and tylenol. I ended up eating KFC barbecue wings and a soft taco t
the same day.... other than a lil swelling the next few days, it wasn't too bad. Let me just say, vicodins are the shizznit

I was told by the doctor NOT to eat 24 hours before the operation. The only thing I could have was water. *rubs chin* Might've had something to do with the IV anesthetic though... so if they don't tell you that you can't eat beforehand then go ahead and pig out.

No, lots of people are able to let them grow in. They have to deal with a lot of annoying pain (instead of just a few days worth) but some people manage to survive it. These are the people who have enough room to grow them in without them becoming seriously impacted. Otherwise if you let them grow in there will be too much crowding and your teeth won't sit correctly. You can ask your dentist if he/she thinks you're capable of growing them in (if you even want to deal with it, I wouldn't). My girlfriend's dentist never told her she had to have them removed, so she tried to just grow them in. After a couple of weeks she was miserable from the pain and just scheduled to have them removed.

Mine were impacted. I had all 4 removed at the same time. absolutely the worst experience of my life.
