My new rig is making lots of freezing. Especially in Vista(64), after a few moments of play the screen is off and the PC freezes. My specs are below. Can anyone advice on what might be the problem? drivers of hardware?

I use VistaUltimate (x64), 165.25 video driver.
Thx in advance.

First, upgrade your drivers to the latest from nvidia. http://www.nvidia.com/object/w...a_x64_175.16_whql.html

Second, try stock clock speeds on your CPU to make sure it's not causing it.

Third, your CPU or GPU might be overheating so open your case to allow more air to cool your video card.

If all three of these fail to fix it, you might have some faulty component.

Well regarding the first I'm reinstalling the drivers now and see how will it work after.

Regarding the heat, I have an ARMOR Thermaltake case that provides quite good cooling inside, I mean my CPU is not getting hotter the 45C and the GPU is mostly getting arround 69C. So considering the high temperaturs at which these things are designed to work I don't think overheating is the problem.

Plus since I have a double boot on my rig, Vista and XP, I've noticed that the actuall freezing is happening more when playing in Vista, so probably the issue is related to the drivers or the OS.

Anyone having an EVGA 680i LT SLI motherboard experiencing freezing during gameplay? Maybe there is smth between EVGA 680i drivers and Vista?

In any case thanks to those who replied. If any other ideas pls do write.

Have you tried new ram? My Crucial ballistix just when bad on me last week and I had the same thing happen to my rig. You can see it looks to be a problem for a lot of people.

hey, you're using crucial ballistix, 4 sticks of them, GOOD LUCK!
4 sticks of ballistix ~ 4 x chances of instability problems.

prepare for 4 x 24 hour runs of Memtest86+ v2.01

well the 69C for my GPU is while playing COD4 for about an hour, not IDLE.
But LOUISSSs has a point about the problems from the Ballistix, so probably I'll have to test to see if this is the problem.

Can anyone give me more details about what soft to use to make such a testing and how long this test should be carried out?

Thx guys for your advice.

u need to have memtest86+ v2.01 (or later) as a boot disc and boot into it from the bios. its not run in windows.

let it run its thing for 24 hours for 1 x 1gb (about 50 passes)
then repeat for each stick. keep in mind theres also a possibility for a bad DIMM SLOT on your mb so take that into account when you're testing. although its a slim possibility.

run each for about 50 passes and if u get no errors then you can be sure each stick is good, then u need to work on configuring your mb to run with more than 2 ram slots filled... increasing voltages, reducing speed, loosening ram rimings... etc + lots of other problems (ESP WITH THAT nvidia 680i u got there)

One of my four dimms of Ballistix PC2-6400 went bad two weeks ago... first problem I've ever had with RAM.

Same for me... I built my system and a friends at the same time and his ram went bad about two months ago and mine went down last week. Of course I was the lucky one because the BOSD's ended up taking out Vista on me.
