Although I don't post here as much as I'd like to, I do correspond with a number of you via email.

Some of you may remeber my site from this thread, started back in May.

Today (January 6, 2004) is the one-year anniversary of the start of my personal fitness program. I've posted a special "Daily News" update with a few words of thanks, and hopefully some useful words of encouragement and motivation (which we can all use from time-to-time!)

If you are reading this on January 6, 2004, just check out my main transformation page

If you are reading this after January 6, 2004 you'll need to read it in my January 2004 Archives

I just want to thank everyone here for their kind support over the past year. I couldn't have done it without you!

Mine personally would be don't bother. If you don't possess a lot of motivation for getting and staying in shape you'll not get anywhere.
I'd love to do what you did but i don't know where to begin
If that is the case his site has some ideas, and you could go to bodybuilding.com and read some of their starter routines on diet and what not.

Check out his webpage, and read the stuff on there. It has all the information you would need.

Thanks for the comments and the emails everyone.

5ayle,
I agree with Skoorb. If you start with that attitude and are not willing to stop being lazy, you'll just become discouraged and fail. My advice would be to decide how bad you want it. If you are willing to put the time in and dedicate yourself to the process, you'll be very happy with the results. If being lazy got results you'd see a lot more ripped up couch potatoes. :)

Blieb,
Congratulations on quitting smoking and deciding to get in shape! I quit smoking a little over 3 years ago after more than a decade of 2-3 packs a day. That first year was pretty rough, but it gets easier. I never crave them anymore....in fact, cigarettes disgust me now.

My initial reaction was "photoshop!"

and the sucking-in of your gut looks weird, in the side pic (I'm looking at the link to your site from the original thread with your site).

but good job. :)

Hi John,

Since I started college, I gained about 15lbs! :( It is showing now and I want to ask you what's the best way to start and get motivation. I am extremely impressed for what you did with yourself but I don't want to bulk up like that. I just want to lose the stomach and man boobies. I am just so tired to work out at night, yet I really want to. Any suggestions?

John is my hero. Both because of his accomplishment but also because of his HOT wife.

The most dramatic monthly photo is June, 2003. It's awesome that you changed that much in five months. Good work. Do you think you'll ever be able to relax? Or do you have to be motivated forever? I went on a diet a couple of weeks before Christmas, and then put it on hold for the holidays. But when I came off my diet, I came off with a vengeance. :(. I fear to revisit the scales, because I really don't need them to confirm what I know.

I'm in the "psyching myself up" phase for returning to a weight loss plan.

I am currently eating my way through the rest of my fridge in preparation to go hardcore :) I just can't afford to throw all that food away ;)
Saturday, I am going to the grocery store. After that, I am going on a reduced carb, low fat (except good fat ;)) diet, with a rigorous exercise plan. I did it before. I'll do it again, only this time I will exercise.

Let's just say that digital camera is ready. :) I will be posting before and after pics myself as a motivator. I like your concept, and I think it will really work for me, since I think that kind of external motivation is exactly what I need.

Thanks, John.

Narse,
I've documented how I achieved my results in great detail on my web site: you'll find my training program, charts that include all of the food I've put in my body down to the last calorie, pictures, graphs, animations, Frequently Asked Questions, Daily News items, helpful links and on and on. When you have some time check it out and you'll be well on your way to getting started.

TommyVercetti,
Pffft, well duh!@ I'm surrounded by a dozen rich, nude super models at this very moment.

Gobadgrs,
The most important thing to getting lean is a clean diet. No junk food!

cashman,
If you just want to become more lean and allow your existing muscle to show, go on a fat-loss diet by creating a mild caloric deficit, eating clean foods and exercising. More details can be found on my site. Oh, I live in the Altamonte Springs area.

sygyzy,
Don't tell my wife about the rich super models, k? ;)

Maetryx,
Good question ("Do you think you'll ever be able to relax? Or do you have to be motivated forever?"). It's funny because I do feel relaxed. This is just how I live my life now. I still get to eat stuff that is "junk" food and it doesn't effect my progress. For example, I have pizza and wine or beer once a week. Over the holidays I ate like a pig and put on a few pounds. It's not how you eat some of the time, it's how you eat most of the time. Once I reached my fatloss goals, I relaxed quite a bit and now I just like to eat healthy and work out. It's actually fun once you get used to doing it.

DevilsAdvocate,
That's excellent man, you got the right idea. Stay motivated and you'll be looking and feeling great in no time.

Thanks for the props everyone...

Way to go John and thanks for all the advice! I did something very similar to what you've done, and it feels AMAZING! To be honest, i wasn't as dedicated as you were, but the last 3-4 months, i've been taking bodybuilding really seriously, and not missing a single workout. Kickass!

Wow, truly an amazing transformation. You have some good genes there :) I'm about 3 monthes into a healthier lifestyle. I do cardio 3 times a week and count my calories. I've lost about 10lbs so far and feel a lot better.

Hey, John, sorry to hear about the shoulder injury. Is it feeling better?

I've played a lot of contact sports in my day, but my worst injuries have come from lifting weights.
