I gotta say that every time I look at the pics and specs for this phone I start to sprout some wood -- is this normal?

Definitely not normal, unless of course, when you look at pics, the wallpaper is a hot girl.

I'm sort of interested in it as the hardware specs are sweet, but I still don't want to switch to Android from WebOS. More rumors recently of a new Palm device hitting in a few months so I may hold out for that.

Really? Got a link? I'd love WebOS on the EVO/HD2 with a proper virtual keyboard (as opposed to the patch available through preware).

I wonder if HTC would make a sort of senseUI for WebOS (weather widget on the "desktop" would be awesome).

Here's a recent link on the "Palm C40" (surely not a final name) in Sprint's inventory system again.

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/04/0...ry-8230-flip-palm-c40-and-motorola-es400.html

And here's someone w/ usually reliable info saying it's out "in the wild" (testing) right now, and should be some video of it soon:
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/242140-palm-c40-wild.html

And some more credible info here ""It's bigger than the Pre, nicer screen, physical keyboard, and 4G":
http://forums.precentral.net/future-palm-devices/241604-palm-c40-info.html

So, take it with a grain of salt, but multiple sources do seem to be confirming the device's existence, and that we should be seeing something soon.

That's because Pre was a disappointment mostly. I think it's pretty obvious the evo won't be

The problem with the Pre was that it was badly marketed. The hardware isn't spectacular either. But the OS design is miles above anything out right now. Its so seemless and easy to use.

Now the Evo won't be marketed poorly, has a line of good HTC predecessors to get it attention, has great hardware, and an Os that many would agree is even better than WebOS (although admittedly I've used neither), so it should do great things for sprint

I'm not sure I've ever heard someone argue Android + HTC SenseUI is a better than WebOS. I've used both extensively and WebOS is far ahead in terms of ease of use, multitasking, etc.. The hardware of Evo though is obviously far better than the Pre, but I'm hoping the Palm "C40" changes that as well.

I've heard several people on this forum specifically say that android + sense 2.1 is duobtless the best mobile OS out there, but who knows, they may be mistaken. I know I can't make a judgement

And if people think Android is in trouble when it comes to apps (with respect to the iDevices), WebOS is much, much worse.

Ok, well, to clarify, yes, Sense is probably the best implementation of Android, but for people that have used both it and WebOS, I'd say almost all would prefer WebOS. (not anything to do with hardware, just from a pure OS standpoint)

agreed. I watched a demo of the HTC Incredible, and it was so crowded and "busy." But I will give them the big clock widget is awesome.

Unfortunately, no matter how good WebOS is, it's becoming very tough to compete unless they can pump something out. Verizon marketing was so poor it did not help one bit.

I'm also not too sold on the slider anymore. So EVO I will likely go, despite really liking WebOS. Plus, I'll finally be able to have a damn GPS logger.

I have used both Android and WebOS extensively and I prefer Android. I simply cannot live without a homescreen. Now if WebOS would implement a homescreen with their multitasking they would have a winner. The ridiculous sluggishness of the OS doesn't help matters any.

The OS is not in any way sluggish. The hardware? maybe. I have my Pre overclocked @ 800Mhz and it's as smooth as can be.

I also have the 800Mhz patch, and it really does make a huge difference. It's like somewhere between 500Mhz and 800Mhz there was a magic number that changed how the OS felt and operated...even so far as memory management goes. I don't get the "too many cards" error as often anymore...probably 'cause whatever was processing and required memory completes its task so much faster.

I do agree that a widgetable homescreen/desktop would be killer.
