Getting anything for Prime Day?

I have two Husqvarna clearing saws, and a Stihl saw. The Huskys came with a string attachment, and I tried it once. It was a PITA, even with the limited amount of string it came with. I don't really care about fine trimming anyway. I use them to eat big brush and small trees.

I got an Amazfit Band 5 fitness tracker for sleep data after having trouble sleeping for several weeks. Getting back to normal but still wake up a lot. I wanted an idea of how much deep sleep I'm getting now.

Anyway it seems to work pretty well, got it for $28.49. The Fitbit I was looking at was around $100.

I have a defective pair of powerbeats that I glued back together. I tried an off brand of earbuds, and they didn't sound good at all so I returned. So far I haven't found an off brand that sounds as good.

I spent far too much. Picked up a few more kasa bulbs and an outdoor outlet, picked up a mini split ac and a vacuum pump with gauges to set it up, bought a bunch of blink outdoor cameras and solar panels for them. I think we also got a little kids kitchen setup as well that was on a good deal. I did less random scrolling to find things to buy this year and focused just on things I needed

I always see them as a last resort. I order from them once in a while as often there's no other choices, but if there is I don't order from them. I do maybe like 3-5 orders per year at most.

I use amazon a lot. More than I should really. It's just super convenient ordering a wide range of products in a single order. I don't have prime though.

The order I'm waiting on now is sardines, an air cleaner + housing for my mower, and tar licorice. Hard to get a combo like that anywhere else.

I use Amazon plenty, just picked up a case, some RAM, and an SSD from them for about $110. Same price on the components from Newegg but woulda had to pay shipping on the case.

That said, I wait till I need something I cannot generally find locally (typically computer components or other odds and ends) and buy those.

I've moved to Redbubble for most of my t-shirt purchases (my go to birthday and Christmas gift for the kids, both useful and getting a logo of something they're into shows I'm paying attention) but holy cow IP Theft, IP Theft everywhere on that site.

Otherwise, I find myself using eBay A LOT. I'm not hung up on getting something new, I find tend to save a good chunk of money and I have less out of the box issues buying used than new. The "recycling" element is a plus too, stuff just ends up in a landfill otherwise.

I loath buying stuff from sales "just because it was on sale". Good way to give your kids something to do clearing out your Horder stash when you die, not good for much else.

I order something at least twice a week. I know I should support local business and BS like that but honestly, where is a local business that has what I am looking for? I order my cat's prescription food from amazon as it is tied somehow to her vet. 72 bucks for 24 cans of prescription hills food. Yeah, some local pet stores will use the prescription but its also 20-25% higher cost. Sorry, if B & M stores had the same prices I would support them more, but they don't. Also, cat litter at the petco nearest me is like 40-50% HIGHER than the supermarket and at least 50-60% higher than getting it on amazon. It's a no brainer folks.

Walmart and Petsmarts often have good deals on bulk litter and food too, course you might not have any around. Seriously, it's all about that Chewy man. And it shows up damn near next day every time.

Yeah I used to buy from Chewy all the freaking time but over the past couple of years a lot of their prices have risen to be the same as my local pet store. Some food and toys are a little cheaper some are a little more expensive. And their coupon offers have cratered. RX prices are still cheaper though

I find Chewy is about the same price as my vet's online pharmacy, so for many things, if price is equal or maybe a buck more, I'll generally just order through my vet, so that they get the commission/sale.

Though, Chewy does have advantages for toys and 4% back through Capital One offers (or some AA miles).

That's part of the Amazon anti-trust lawsuit: They won't let companies sell anything on Amazon for a higher price than anywhere else.

Mostly we have been poor consumers in general, which makes it easy to not use Amazon much anymore.
The urge to buy shit has gone down greatly since we:
1) started putting away cash for the house build.
2) realize that any stuff we buy now, we get to pack up and move in a year. Oh fuck that noise!

I have virtually zero places to get computer parts locally. There's Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, etc. but they only sell really basic stuff. I used to be able to go to places like CompUSA & get whatever I needed...now I have to keep an inventory of spare & emergency parts, especially because Amazon's whole "2-day shipping" promise is sometimes overnight but also sometimes like 5 days now, so the whole "Prime shipping" thing is far less universal post-COVID now.

-Yep, nothing immediately local to me and we do have a small computer chain that has a location about 25 miles as the crow flies from us (although it involves driving a one lane highway over a mountain) but the prices there tend to be fairly marked up (hell maybe they're buying off Amazon and adding their own 20% on top).

OTOH Amazon will deliver straight to the doorstep, but the timing is pretty loosy Goosy now.

That's why I don't bother with Prime. The last few trials I had, "2-day" shipping was as fast as the free standard shipping, and thus, was not worth extending the trial. If I need something right away, I can either go to a local store (and some price match), wait, or pay for faster shipping (which would be fine thanks to the money I save not buying Prime).
