Getting a Wii U, maybe

Just saw some videos of Mario Kart 8 and it got me excited. It's been a while since a video game has made me want to get it. Also, titles like Super Mario 3D are great. Luigi's Mansion, etc. However, since I'm also a big Zelda fan, there seems to be only the Wind Waker so that aspect may not be so good.

How are the streaming capabilities of the Wii U in terms of using Netflix and Amazon?

I don't know but the games on the Wii U seem better than the Xbox One and PS4. I haven't had a console in a while so I'm thinking of getting one and so far the Wii U seems like the better choice.

Update:

Got the Wii U! I have posted a reply.

The Wii U is a great secondary gaming device. Meaning, if you have a gaming PC or a PS4/X1 then the Wii U is the perfect complement to them. On its own it is an ok gaming system but for the most part you'll just have mostly Nintendo only games and very little in the way of multiplatform.

I love my Wii U very much. But I also went in purchasing it for the sole reason of playing Nintendo games in HD.

As for your question, it streams Netflix very well. You can watch it either on your TV or gamepad and it works great.

If you are a fan of Nintendo games and don't care about lots of the multiplatform games out there that will be on the PC/PS4/X1 then the Wii U would probably be good for you, but if you do care about those multiplatform games, you need to have another system to go along with the Wii U imo.

Good advice, I think as a primary machine it would be terrible, but for Nintendo games it's obviously the only way to go. I swear I saw either on Walmart online this morning or somewhere else the system going for $249.

I'm intrigued by the Wii U but it just doesn't have any really solid games for it yet. Especially since I'm not a huge Mario fan. Nintendo has a lot of great franchises that they're not exploiting anymore. When was the last time we had a Star Fox game, not including the 3DS remake?

we are huge mario fans. I have been tempted to buy one.

Only issue i had is with the wii was the games seemed to get scratched far to easy.

Netflix on the Gamepad is great. The Wii U just has enough range to reach my bedroom, so I can watch it in bed with the headphones in 🙂

very little in the way of multiplatform.

Batman Arkham City, Batman Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell Black List, Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Ghosts, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4(which is extremely good), Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Injustice, Rayman Legends are just some of the really good ones I can name off randomly.

And they are all better on another platform. That's the main problem.

I usually tend not to play multiplatform games too much, such as BF4 and GTA. I do however like games like strategy, some old shooters like Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. I do understand where you're coming from. Xbox One and PS4 might be more versatile in their lineup of games.

For instance, if I want to play Madden online, it might be best to get a Xbox One or PS4. Same with the NBA or MLB titles. I believe RPGs and action games are probably also not the strong point of the Wii U.

However, just on its own, it seems like a solid system based on the quality of games. Especially with the new Mario Kart 8 coming 😀

Thank you.

Target has the 32GB Wii U for $249.

What I find the Wii U best for is couch play.

Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros U + New Super Luigi U, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Kart 8, and the eventual Super Smash Bros are all great games to play with a friend/significant other. These games can of course can be played just as enjoyably by yourself.

On top of that you have titles like Pikmin 3, WWHD, Bayonetta 2, and the eventual Zelda.

I've enjoyed my Wii U very much, and it is the only 'current gen' system I will have for a while, but it is best as a secondary system. My PC + Wii U is a great combination, and I don't think Ill pick up the PS4 or xbone anytime soon.

Not to rain on your parade, but I watched a video of Mario Kart 8, and I'm struggling to find any reason (apart from there being a Nintendo theme) to play it over Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed.

same reason i bought a wii u. to play nintendo games, especially mario, in HD. nintendo makes me feel like an 80s kid again.

I do enjoy Sonic All stars but I can never find when people are on to play it online which is a shame.

I think that might be a good reason to go for Mario Kart if the online is offered.

I opted for a 3DS for the convenience, seems to have quite a few of the same games, just less graphics. Just sad there is no Metroid for it, at least give me the SNES version in 3d nintendo like you did with some of the other games. I just wish I got Mario party or Mario kart instead of Kid Icarus...the controls are not for me.

I really want them to make a 2.5D Metroid game.

I've been thinking about getting the wii u, and while i understand it can play the wii games, what about its virtual console? I don't own a wii, can i still get games like Zelda OoT/MM and mario 64/paper mario? This is actually a major deciding factor in the console purchase, so much so that I probably won't by it otherwise. I have a great pc so the xbox/ps4 seem extreamly moot, and as mentioned before, this seems like a great off system, if you will.

I bought one today on Black friday hangover saturday. Light traffic in the stores, plenty of parking and little traffic 🙂

I am gonna wait out the bugs and initial overpriced 360/ps3 ports and will pick up a PS4 next year when things are stable.

you can still get the 249 dollar Wii Us at target.

Anyhow too many first party titles on Nintendo to ignore (mario, zelda etc..) and my old Wii games will play on it as well.

The Wii U has a 'Wii mode' that lets you do anything the Wii could, including downloading virtual console titles like OoT and MM.
