Getting a Wii U, maybe

Super mario 3d is addictive. That is a fun game, what a change of pace compared to the other games out there. Who ever designed this game must have smoked something good.

I just bought one of these for me, the wife and two boys (ages 3 & 7) for xmas. Picked up the black friday deal with the 32GB black console, Super Mario 3D, Luigo Bros, and an extra controller for $299. Added Nintenco Land, Wii Party U (comes with a black controller), Need for Speed (boys love driving games, especially this series), and a pro (xbox style) controller, sow e could have 4 controllers and everyone could play.

Nintendo blew the launch of this thing badly over the last 12 mos, so I understand why everyone has written it off. But my buddy up the street has one for his kids, and it's a freaking blast. I am a snobbish PC gamer who also owns a 360, and I thought if I were going to buy anything, I'd get an xbone. Totally changed my mind. Also the software titles coming out this year look really promising. Here's one even I am interested in:

I also went to gamestop for another hands on (new games). I know its just anecdotal, but it was kinda funny. I had been asking the guys behind the counter some questions about it that they obviously did not wanna answer ("wut, yer not getting ps4/xbone??"), and the one guy made a comment that it was a flop system that nobody would be buying. Store was really busy and there were 5-6 people in line behind me. I heard a couple of snorts from the line and figured they were agreeing with him.

Was very amused to learn the next 4 people in line were all there to buy Wii U's. No joke. Apparently, it still has some legs due to the appeal of the exclusives and is a much cheaper more kid friendly alternative to the two big boys.

So its not quite dead yet. If they have a good xmas and a couple of good game launches, it could take off. Especially if they do a new Zelda or similar.

Im looking forward to playing it with my kids. I kinda wanna download the original NES/SNES games too, just for the nostalgia.

I played the SM3DW at Nintendo World and was shocked at how good it is. I'm just waiting for the right deal - had I known about the deal you bought, I would have jumped.

I'm also thinking of jumping on the Wii U bandwagon. What's really changed my mind has been seeing SM3DW in action. It really does look astounding with tons of eye candy and the gameplay is exactly what one expects to get out of a top Mario game. If Nintendo can keep cranking out titles of this quality, then they may be able to turn things around. But as I think exdeath said, this is really a console for only playing 1st party Nintendo games that you can't get anywhere else.

I have 3x as many games for Wii U as PS4 right now, all first party and exclusive.

The only one I haven't picked up yet is Rayman Legends because its no longer exclusive but I think it was originally designed around the Wii U pad so the Wii U version appears to be the definitive copy.

I have a Zelda edition WiiU wrappd and under the tree for my boys (6 & 8) plus Skylanders. Grandma is getting them New Super Mario Bros U and Super Mario 3D World.

Its going to be sweeeeet.

I dont give a damn about the Xbone or PS4.

Those of you buying Wii U's. Best Buy has Nintendo eShop cards for 20% off this week. I'd suggest at least picking up the $20 card for $16 so you can grab something on the eShop as well 😀

Just bought the zelda version with gift card from target. A shame it doesn't do gamecube stuff so I'll have to keep the wii up for the zelda master disc I have for it.

It was Best Buy's black friday deal. Was available online. The guy behind me at gamestop asked about it and they got kinda indignant (why???) about it - saying it was a very limited run that no one actually could get... (wut?). To clarify, it was this box, plus either a red Mario or green Luigi Wii Remote Plus and Nintendo Land U game. And I think it was $319, not $299. Still a great deal IMHO.

I rolled over in bed at the beach on black friday, grabbed my tablet from the nighstand, tapped the best buy bookmark for the deal, punched in the order, and then rolled over to sleep off my hangover. Easiest xmas shopping Ive done in years. 😀

The most surprising thing is that when he advertises 17 games, he doesn't mean 1 Wii U game and 16 Wii games as that's most of what I see.

Your wording kinda threw me... yeah, those are all Wii U games. That's a helluva good deal. I had checked craisglist here and there were 2 listings, both near retail prices. I went with a new box.

Im glad to read so many are buying WiiU's. I wasn't initially on board, but Im starting to remember all the fun I had playing NES/SNES/N64. Havent owned a Nintendo machine since that N64, but those games were all so much fun, even if they werent the most graphically sophisticated. I really dont care much about cartoony graphics, as long as it can output them in HD.

Cant wait to play Super Mario with my boys.

I was in NYC walking around, didn't even look online.

I told the GF we would buy one whenever mario kart comes out, and if/when it hits $200 on a sale.

It's never going to be $199 with a game. It's easily worth the asking price. Get one now with Mario 3D World. You seriously won't regret it. That game brought so much needed life back into the Wii U. Wii U is going to do great in 2014. So glad I have one man.... so glad. 3d World = epically good.

I basically want a gaming system that will also act as a streaming player as well. Something that will stream Netflix and Amazon. The WiiU, if it can stream Netflix and Amazon in HD, seems more attractive than the others due to its games and price, but the games are slightly more important. I want a device that can do more than one thing and that's why I haven't bought a Roku or anything of that sort. In the meantime, my PC can stream shows.

I like the Roku a lot, I think if you temporarliy had one, you'd be hard pressed to give up its interface.

same reason i bought a wii u. to play nintendo games, especially mario, in HD. nintendo makes me feel like an 80s kid again.

I feel the same thing every time I start up Ni no Kuni and get lost in the theme music on the PS3 launch screen. Its been too long since a game has been so magical and enchanting. Its really the first and only modern game to make me feel exactly how SNES did.
