Getting a Wii U, maybe

I'm an early adopter cmdrdredd, I don't think I'm the only one. There are no games out on X1 or PS4 worth owning those consoles for. I buy everything at launch regardless, I don't wait because I have enough money to throw around. if I didn't, I would probably wait - but I make it a priority because I'm into new technology.

My original point was there is no reason for a "normal" gamer to own a PS4 or X1 right now.

That's your opinion and WTF is a "normal gamer"???

That almost seems like you're insulting people there, even by accident. I can understand the term "hardcore gamer" as someone who spends a good percentage of their free time playing games and doesn't play the casual titles that come out, just the RPGs, Shooters, and such. I've never heard of a "normal gamer" am I an "abnormal gamer"? lol

My wife picked me up a Wii U as an early Christmas present. We played the New Super Mario Bros for a day or two then decided to go rent Super Mario Bros 3D World and Pikmin 3. Both games are a lot of fun. We stayed up all night playing 3D World and called it a night once we got to World 8. The next day I fired up Pikmin and played it the rest of the weekend and beat it.

At first I was a little hesitant on buying one due to the lack of games I enjoy from the Nintendo series. My initial thought was to wait until the other good releases came (Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Zelda) but it's going to be a blast having it during the holidays with family.

Too bad. Cheapassgamer had a thread going where people were price matching a $200 zelda wii U ad at best buy and target. 🙁

Thanks for the heads up, i just saw that the egg has the same bundle on their website. I don't feel too bad about my purchase, i got the deluxe model, mario/luigi u and a 25 dollar gift card.

I bought a Wii U Deluxe a year ago and just opened it up last month. I bought Mario and Luigi, bringing my total to over $400. I don't regret it, even at that price. I picked up Super Mario 3D World a few days after release and am on my 3rd play through right now. I did Mario, Luigi and now Princess Peach. I'm a PC gamer, mainly, but was raised on Nintendo, getting a launch NES when I was 6. Man, it feels good to own this system.

Straw man, right there.

Eh, you tell me why someone should own a PS4 or XB1 right now? You do know what a straw man argument is, right? If you read my posts prior to that you wouldn't have said that.

The "normal" gamer is the typical gamer, who buys a console when it actually has something that they want to play. Not you or I who buys it and then fishes for $15 killer instinct games and says this is the best thing since sliced bread. They have a financial conscience, and there are way more of them than the "hardcore" gamer. I don't care if you take it as an insult or not.

The PS4 and XB1 launched with nothing, and it was expected. The last launch worthy of anything was N64.

It's really not an opinion, because if it were, then what you're saying is everyone on earth who was remotely interested in games would own every gaming console - and immediately when it came out. "lolz".

People who didn't buy wii-u at launch, people who didn't buy X1 at launch, people who didn't buy PS4 at launch, did it because it's not worth the financial entry right now.

I'm rather tempted to pick one up at Target when they open. It's $300 - 10% (We're Sorry discount) - 5% (RedCard discount) with a bonus $25 gift card (Special from 12/22-12/24). So, it's an "effective" $231.49 + tax, and it's the Mario + Luigi bundle. Not as good as the Black Friday coupon deal, but you don't have to spend $75 to get this... just needed to have someone's personal financial information leak. 😛

EDIT:

Target Worker: "Oh, are you here for a PlayStation 4?"
Me: "No, I want a Wii U Mario Bundle"
Target Worker: "What!?"

Pretty sure they're not used to hearing that. 😛

My brother picked one up just after release and we play Mario on it nearly every time I go over. It gets a lot of use when multiple people are around to play. Tons of fun. That said it isn't something I'd get if I were playing my myself or online with friends. But it's a great casual system that goes well with family and friends.

If no the fence just do it. 15% off is pretty darn good at Target. i WISH I had something to buy from there right now.

It must not have been clear, but I did buy it. That conversation was pretty much what went down this morning. I know the girl that was working in electronics, so honestly... she should have known better and realized that I already have a PS4. 😛

I ignored that 33% off peripherals deal at Toys'R'Us earlier this month because I didn't know when I'd be getting a Wii U. Fortunately, Target has a 20% off video game accessories coupon which stacks with their 10% off! Unfortunately, Target doesn't price match from 12/22 to 12/26, so I couldn't price match Amazon on the Pro Controller as they have it at ~$42 vs. $50. Still got an awesome deal, and now I have my sights set on Super Mario 3D World. Toys'R'Us has a buy a $50 gift card, get a $5 one free. That might not be too bad!

I was in Target this afternoon looking at the games. The Xbone, PS4, and 3DSs were all completely sold out. Yet they had quite a few Wii U left. That doesn't bode well for Nintendo considering its Christmas Eve. Granted that's only in one town.

When I was in Target yesterday, I spotted some boxes that I didn't immediately recognize in the glass case. "Oh, that's a PlayStation 4; I don't see those too often." 😛 I think they sold a decent amount of their Mario Wii U bundles, but in what probably wouldn't surprise anyone, the NintendoLand one just sat there.

You know what... I have a flippin' gripe to pick with Nintendo on the Wii U and 3DS. What sort of fascist (yeah -- I went there) BS is it to have limited plays on demos!? It reminds me of when I was a kid, and you couldn't just go out and buy any game on your lemonade stand fund. So, what did you do? You just played a demo over and over until you could actually get the game by raiding your piggy bank, or getting it as a gift. The demo was your way to slightly ease the pain of not being able to get this game that you really wanted. So, what's the flippin' point of limiting it?

Of course, this doesn't really affect me, because I only need one playthrough of Monster Hunter 3 to see that it's some unfun, bastard love-child between Dynasty Warriors and Devil May Cry. :|

Nintendo finally admitted in a round about way that people are confusing the Wii and Wii U.

Heh... my friend thought it was just a newer Wii. Maybe it's the way video game consoles work now that are confusing people? You almost always get shrunken down variants of consoles, and in a way, the Wii U sort of seems like a shrunken Wii. Of course, it doesn't help that it can actually play Wii games, since the console uses somewhat similar hardware.

Oh, and I have to call BS on that kid playing the Wii U on the Gamepad in his bedroom. I can't even walk into my flippin' kitchen, which is about 20 feet from the Wii U, without it complaining about the signal being poor between the Wii U and the Gamepad. I tried going upstairs with it so I could watch a download while I was on my computer. Did it work? Nope -- it disconnected before I could even make it up the stairs!

I also don't like the lack of an Ethernet connection on the Wii U. It's my only non-portable device that isn't connected by wire to the Internet.

You must've got a good one then as I experience similar range issues. I can't even go into the next room with my pad without having issues. It's through a wall yes but the range is literally less than 20 feet.

I am debating on getting a Wii U. They look like fun. I may sell my last iPhone and old 3DS to pay for it.

Some of the games look really fun.
