Thinking about getting a new Mitsubishi Lancer....

Seemed like quite a nice car. Anyone ever driven one?

Well... seeing as how I live in Singapore, and an EVO here costs $160k SGD (about $100k USD) while the ordinary Lancer costs $60k SGD (or about $35k USD).... I think that's good enough reason. :)

Cos my budget is 60k SGD, which works out to about 500$ a month on a 10 year loan (at 3% interest).

At 60k, over here, that can get me a Kia Cerato, various Hyundai models, Mitsubishi Lancer, Nissan Sunny (think its called Sentra in the US?)....

Why do cars cost so much more over there? Lancers are $15k in the US.

10 year loan? I hope you don't expect the Lancer to work for that long.

Is it really that bad a car? :(
10 yr loan is the only way I can afford to pay my monthly payments.

I've got a Lancer ES and it is a nice car. But I'm trading it in next year for a Scion tC.

If you are serious that a basic lancer costs 35K USD in your country, that is even less of a reason to buy one, you'll end up financially tied down to a sh*tbox car that probably won't live as long as the loan you're going to take out for it. Even if it does, the car could end up being a money pit where you perpetually put money in to get it fixed.

In the US, the main reason why that car survives at all is because they are dirt cheap. Atleast here since it's cheap, you can throw it away without being out too much, but seriously at 35K for a lancer I'd just save the money and take the bus.

While I agree with the gist of what OS said, the Lancer is not a sh*tbox car. Mine has been trouble free since I got it in 2002. I've put almost 65K miles on it since then, it's driven hard and hasn't provided me with any maintenance challenges yet.

No, I mean just a regular corolla. They are such good and reliable cars, those engines will run you up to 400 k KM easy. They are awesome point A to B cars. Consumer reviews show all :)

But the ultimate point A to B car is the Jetta TDI, 1000 km per tank of diesel cannot be beat, and the NA versions can be flashed to perform like a eurospec boosting HP to 135. My dads friend has one modified, it has quite a kick and pulls on the highway like an animal :)
