I'd pay the extra for an IBM. I have two now an older T23 and an X41 Tablet. They are both solid and comfortable to use. The X41 is amazingly light and thin yet very heavy duty feeling. Perfect for travel. I've had Dell notebooks in the past and they are nowhere near as dependable as IBM..I don't think anyone can make them this good.

I would go with Dell. They are awesome in terms of returns or repairs.
They also offer great quality products anyway!

Apple being one of the companies if I recall correctly... and supposedly their own line of notebooks are higher quality than the ones that they assemble for other brands

What do you guys think of ASUS now, knowing that they have been building laptops many year before coming out with their own line of laptops in 2001?

I think that they're highly regarded in the notebook enthusiast circle as you can tell at notebookforums.com and notebookreview.com

For anyone that has the 700m, I see that the dimensions make it pretty thick, does it bother you?

I have the ASUS Z70 ... before they upp'd the video card to a x700.

I <3 it. Looks sleek as hell. I'd definately go for the Z70a or whatever the refresh is called.

It was between that or the Dell 9300 =p

Oh we also had to have 50+ Poweredge 1650 servers have their motherboards replaced because they kept catching on fire.

Dell's QC is total crap. Spend the money and get the Asus. My personal laptop is a Fujitsu P2010, you couldn't pay me to buy a Dell.

Not trying to be a Dell fanboy or anything, just relating a personal experience. But my company uses pretty much all HP notebooks/desktops. WE have had to replace so many hard drives that I'm getting tired of trying to save people's data and imaging our spare hard drives. Then I have to deal with contacting HP and sending the parts off for warranty.
We have had at least 2+ every week for a while now.

Luckily we are starting to get IBM X40's and soon we will be getting T43's as well. The X40's haven't had much of a problem at ALL except for a docking station issue which 2 are at IBM's service facility now to be fixed.

I was just looking into this yesterday...I've wanted to buy a 700m for quite some time, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a better deal out there. Seems that my best bet would be a used IBM X-series laptop if I don't stick with a new 700m...those coupons are hard to pass up :p

You should do what my friend did, get performance over reliability and pay $2000 for a laptop that died after 3 months. It was a VPR Matrix (Best Buy brand)

I've never had a quality issue with a Dell. Or the few times I've seen one at work, one call to the warranty peoplehad the part shipped overnight or a tech onsite within a day or so. Main thing with Dell is if you get one, spend the extra $100 or so for the 3 year warranty.

Very happy with the Acer's we bought a few weeks ago. Well priced and great stuff. I have yet to have anything Acer fail on me. <knock on wood>

Thinkpad, their quality and warranty/support beats anything else in the laptop industry.
