I haven't rooted yet, so no. I probably won't root it for another week until I've got all my services squared away.

Just for kicks here's what I'm going through to get this phone settled.

1. Colleague purchases the phone in Hong Kong and brings it to me here at a conference in San Francisco

2. Sign up for new At&T Service plan (purchase iPhone 4 32GB to sell with my new account discount)

3. Transfer service plan to Corporate service with my company

4. Port my Verizon number to the new AT&T account

5. Cancel Verizon service

6. Sell iPhone4, Fascinate, and Nexus One.

7. Root
 
I don't know if your phone is unlocked but if it is, you can easily unlock it using Galaxy S2 SIM unlock app by Chainfire. It's on the Android Market and it's free. It requires Root.

Edit: I forgot you were using Tmobile prepaid SIM, so it's unlocked. So you don't need above app. But AT&T Attain owners will find it useful once the phone is released.

disapoinnting.. even at 50 bucks trade in ..

will wait for the GS2 instead.. bummed though.. I really like the HTC sense 3.0..

oh well..

as long as the GS2 doesnt cost 700 bucks and have GPS issues again.. guess I'll be jumping on one.

It just occured to me that I hadn't tried the GPS yet, so I rolled my chair over to the hotel window and tested it. Locked on in a few seconds no problemo.

It locks on fast but some people have complained about the accuracy. I haven't had a problem with mine, but I don't really use the GPS much.
 
I haven't had much issue with GPS on mine either. I do agree, the phone is light enough where it feels like you'd break it. It also tends to get pretty warm under gaming and GPS use.

I actually like how it gets little warm when something is draining the battery. If I haven't been using it heavily and it's warm, I know to start hunting for possible rogue app.
 
it is damn thin. what i would prefer though is if they got the phones as thin as possible and used the extra space for battery. i mean the batt on this thing bulked out so overall it's as thick as my desire would double the battery life

Agree, but it would make it a lot heavier I would assume, which isn't good.
 
Nothing wrong with a thin and light phone. Some of us actually use these things to make phone calls and appreciate the weight reduction. 😉

so? making phone calls has nothing to do with it. there's a certain point where ergonomics becomes a factor.

a lot of photographers talk about how the rebel is not very good ergonomically. many people add grips so their cameras become larger and heavier, but easier to hold.

my ipod touch 4g for example is sub 8mm. it's actually hard to hold on its own, and until i stuffed an incase slider case on it, i felt like I was gonna drop it everytime.

Having a little weight doesn't hurt. Nor does having a little thickness. Just not too much. I think the GS2 is on the border of being too plasticy-thin.

Just put a case on it and you'll be good to go. 😉 Those of us who want a thin, light and high end phone can be satisfied as well. 😛

Ugly Case > Broken $600 phone

Heck, when I first read the SGS2 reviews and it mentioned how thin it was the first thing I thought was "good, I will have the ability to add a case and still be thinner than my current phone."

I got two cases for the SGS2.. One from Case Mate and the other from Zenus. Currently using the one from Case Mate as it seems protect the phone better.. the other is just a thin plastic shell that doesn't really do much in my opinion. It doesn't look too bad with the case on.. although its not quite aestetically pleasing as without the case.
 
I ordered two cases, one is the barely there case mate, and the other is a leather pocket case. Also got the skinomi screen protector. Expecting delivery from Amazon next week. I will post some pictures once I have em. Right now I'm not even using the phone til I get it protected. If I ding it or scratch the screen it will drive me insane.

The pocket could be my answer for how to protect the phone and still show the aesthetics
