First the Medic, then Pyro, and now Mr. Heavy. Valve has announced that the Heavy class is next in line for Team Fortress 2 class updates (i.e. new weapons and achievements). Additionally, Valve said they will "open up the process a little" in talking about how the update is designed. The goal of the update is to "make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with" but in a manner that does not significantly change the Heavy's role in the game. We're interested to see how those ideas and constratins translate to new firepower.

That's going to be one heck of a weekend.

I kind of hope the heavy gets a complete weapon replacement for the Chaingun, something that keeps them a little more mobile.

I don't mind the heavy being so imobile, but there should be a balance between mobility and weapon accuracy. Right now you spin up the gun and can barely move, but also have trouble killing anything not directly in front of you.

Good stuff. I've noticed Heavy usage has become quite low in the past several weeks, so this should bump things up a bit. I used to play the Heavy a tonne before I discovered how much I enjoyed playing Medic and Pyro, but maybe this will renew my love for the Heavy.

This could be a problem for us spies if some actually have a brain and turn around occasionally while spewing bullets.

WE MUST PUSH LEETLE CART !!!

Guesses on the three new weapons ? I'm going with ... *surprise* ... a second mini-gun !! Howza bout a nade launcher ?? The shoulder bandolier is already in place on the Heavy, so those are my guesses.

Yeah I was thinking a smaller mini-gun that does less damage, holds less rounds, but allows you to move a little faster while you shoot it.

Maybe some boxing gloves to extend the reach of his punch attack? :p

Woo hoo my wishes have been answered!
Fatties gonna burn, fatties gonna burn!

(Note on the link: I have my Messages Per Page set to 60).

I wonder what his melee upgrade will be. Perhaps using the shotgun to hit people? Brass knuckles maybe? Maybe quicker punches with less damage? Some comically large boxing gloves might be cool

I've never played heavy so much as I do now. They absolutely own pyros. Having played spy so much, I know where snipers are and how often/when I should check my 6. I still don't play it often, but if the other team gets a good pyro push, I'll switch and get some easy kills.

But the pyro population is starting to wane. On a 32 player server last night we only had 2 on our team. :(

From article:
"make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with"

... it's about time.

And while they're at it, they should come up with some other synergies other than medic + other class. You can have a bunch of teamwork, but if nobody is a medic, your team is severely crippled.

Why is it that out of all the classes, the medic is the ONE that a team can't live without? If you're missing any other single class, a team will do just fine. No soldiers? No problem.

To have a viable team, you're pretty much forced to have at least 1 medic. If they shifted away from implying specific team configurations, I think the pubbing experience would improve. For example, there would be less complaining about "OMG CAN SOMEONE GO MEDIC" and you'd actually have a chance against an opposing medic + pyro combo.

Seeing their intentions on making the hwguy more viable _without_ a medic is great news. They just need to apply that philosophy to a few more classes and we're set.

I've been playing as scout and engineer lately, and those classes are plenty viable w/o a medic. In fact, a well placed turret or two can essentially deny the opposing team from ever capturing the intel in maps like 2fort

Yeah, to sort of extrapolate on what slugg was saying, it may be nice if other guys could team up together for certain buffs or something. As in maybe a Scout could have a speed gun and team up with guys to give them a bit of a boost if you all need to rush somewhere, or something along that lines.

I'm just spewing out of the top of my head though, it could be a totally stupid idea. :p

I was playing TF2 on the Baron's Pub server with a guy that saw some concept art of the Heavy's new gun. It's an AA gun from WW2 (can't remember what it's called) that fires similarly to the MP50 from FEAR.

Woohoo! I absolutely own everyone with the heavy and I'm interested to see what valve has in store. However, I'll probably use it as an excuse to brush up on my sniping skills.

They should definitely consider this type of arrangement as they go through the other class updates. Why not give other classes "weapons" like the medigun that you can use on your teammates to buff them up? Would add a lot of new wrinkles to gameplay IMO. You could have the Soldier and Demo team up for some kind of rocket-propelled grenade or something, or allow a spy to use his cloak on a team mate so long as he stays within a certain range... I don't know, I'm sure they can come up with some cool/fun synergies.

About time, although the medic is my favorite class I hate having to be one of the few all the time because of a bad team. I would rather go heavy sometimes but usually get paired with a dumbass medic.
