Other than a longer range weapon, I don't see any 'necessary' improvements. Probably some higher-powered melee where you can throw/push someone would be cool.

Yeah, something similar to the pyros air blast. The Air blast is so useful for clearing off points, either when you are attacking or defending. Plus shoving a crit rocket right back in a soldiers face never gets old :)

my suggestions.

1) minigun-> flakgun: really slow firing, accurate, single action gun that does 130+ pts of damage for a direct hit and 40 pts splash damage. Good for long range enemies and engy buildings. The slow rate of fire (~1 round per 2 second)means you have to sit there forever taking fire as you take out a longer range target and makes you very vulnerable to fast close range attackers. Maybe tripod mounted so to deploy it takes a few seconds as well.

2) shotgun-> rubber bullet bloop gun. knock back weapon that repels incoming ubers and allows you to defend sentry/dispenser positions. super accurate so you can knock away sticky bombs.

3) fists -> bear hug. Rip off of SF2 Zengeif super atomic piledriver. You can aim in the general direction or auto lunge/grab at any enemy in close proximity. Good for pesky scouts and pyros trying to circle strafe around you. Hug takes time to slowly squeeze the life out of the enemy and cant be canceled so you are vulnerable if they have a teammate close by.

I like the bear hug idea :D

I've never had much luck with the heavy, they actually seem really weak when I use them, even when they crit. Spies just walk though heavy fire undetected a lot. Though if an enemy heavy shoots me I'm dead in one second :p - I guess the heavy's gun is the most random weapons in the game though, or one of them, since the bullets fly everywhere.

I usually do pretty good with the heavy on dustbowl. If you don't have a medic it's hard to do really well because just about any pair can run up to you and kill you pretty quickly.

I used to hate the heavy but since so many people started playing the pyro it has been awesome :)

So many noob pyros can't kill the heavy :) I can only get the heavy down to like 30hp before I die. Depending on how fast the person turns etc.

"make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with"

... it's about time.

And while they're at it, they should come up with some other synergies other than medic + other class. You can have a bunch of teamwork, but if nobody is a medic, your team is severely crippled.

Why is it that out of all the classes, the medic is the ONE that a team can't live without? If you're missing any other single class, a team will do just fine. No soldiers? No problem.

To have a viable team, you're pretty much forced to have at least 1 medic. If they shifted away from implying specific team configurations, I think the pubbing experience would improve. For example, there would be less complaining about "OMG CAN SOMEONE GO MEDIC" and you'd actually have a chance against an opposing medic + pyro combo.

Seeing their intentions on making the hwguy more viable _without_ a medic is great news. They just need to apply that philosophy to a few more classes and we're set.

I think Engi's on defense are pretty hard to win without. If you don't have any SGs up on D (depending on the map at least - most definitely for Goldrush, Dustbowl, Gravel Pit) you're going to lose quickly.

If the heavy is half-competent, the pyro will lose. Problem is, I can kill the pyros fine, but they usually still kill me with the lingering fire damage. I can never seem to strafe fast enough around a heavy with a pyro either.

I am kinda bummed. I was hoping they would release the next few achievement packs in pairs. I really really wanted to see Spy/Sniper, Demo/Engi and Scout/Heavy released together to balance out the class stacking that occurs when these new patches arrive.

Yeah, I thought they were throwing bones out for underused classes. Scout would've been a logical choice, and the matches would've been pretty funny :)
