Get Out of the POOL!

Cogman

Lifer
So the university pool is open all saturday, And I like to go for a swim every so often. However, Invariably when I go swimming there is a group of about 5-10 people just standing in the center of the pool. They aren't playing games, they aren't treading water, they are just standing there talking to each other.

Seriously, Get out of the freaking pool so those that are going to swim laps, can. They take up so much space and do nothing but talk and flirt with each other. You can do that outside of the pool.

Yes, if they where playing games or something, I could understand it, but just standing there makes it hard for anyone else to use the pool.

So if you must talk to someone in the pool, go to a side wall, or get out of the freaking pool.

most normal pools have swim/lap lanes. the YMCA we belong to actually has 3 pools for competitions, laps and one just for families. the lap pool is actually cooler (temp) for the swimmers.

Most people don't know lap pool etiquette. Then again most people don't know life etiquette.

When I was swimming laps away from my swim team I would ask them to move so I could get my workout in and they would always just move.

Getting a free bubble ride by jets is always fun. 😉

But seriously if the pool is not marked for laps then they can be where they want.

The freeway doesn't say "No Standing". Try it out...

It usually is not that hard to swim laps if only the middle it taken up.

In fact without any kind of markings that most lap pools have since this sounds like one swimming by the sides tends to be the best since you can keep track of your "lane" easier.

But seriously if the pool is open to all and they are there first why complain if you don't even ask them to move so you can do laps?

Every pool I've ever belonged to, lap swimmers have been at the bottom of the barrel.

Fat geriatics paying for aquasize? CLEAH DE POOL!

Rug rats being taught by overpaid and annoying chirpy thirty somethings while their helicopter Mom's look placidly on? CLEAH DE POOL!

Absurdly slow swimmers clogging up the designated fast lanes? WHO CAREZ about your insignificant woes and petulant complaints, Mr. Lowly Lap Guy? Mwahahahahahahaha!

The sad fact is that the lowly lap swimmer brings no extra revenue, and so gets no respect.

Sob! :brokenheart:

sounds like a realistic statement.

About 20k worth of investment and a couple hundred dollars in chemicals a year.

Thanks anyways but troll elsewhere.

Oh, forgot this was AT, everyone has their own olympic size swimming pool IN their house that they got for 20% from online and then coupons for another $2000 off AND got the pool cover from a Black Friday deal last year along with the bulk? pool chemicals.

What gives the op the right to say what you can or can't do in a pool open to everyone?

It's one thing if you are doing laps and people get in your way or they have lanes marked with lines and such but other then those it's open for anyone to use and not individuals to make the rules when they have no say in it.

Ssshh, I agree and now everybody knows how stupid I am, too.

Fixed.

So, you two, in public places, do you stand in the middle of the hallway ignorantly and needlessly blocking everyone else's path, simply because there's no posted rules telling you not to?

No one says he can or can not do that. He should, however, be able to ask them if they can move over so that he can get his exercise in and they can still lounge around. When they are asked if they can move over they should do so out of courtesy as long as there is still room for them to hang out.

Did the op ask them to move or just come straight here to complain about it?

If not then who cares since at the time they were not in anyone's way if they were never asked to move since they could never had known anyone wanted to do laps.

Not many people do that in public pools open to everyone for the reasons that it's open to everyone and not 3-4 people only that want to do laps.

no, but most are at a pool to enjoy it, not trying to think being the next Phelps is finally going to get them laid.

These fucking losers need to head to a pool for laps not a community one.

20K?

The few folks I know who had a "normal" sized pool built ended up spending 30-something.

As well as chemicals, there is a much smaller expense of water.

The power bill is another thing. There will always be a motor running. If the heater is running, ouch.

And I had said that earlier also.

so everyone that swims laps thinks they are going to be the next "phelps" so they can get laid?

typically pools that people attempt to swim laps in have lane lines.......... that would mean they are setup for swimming laps
