sounds like a realistic statement.

About 20k worth of investment and a couple hundred dollars in chemicals a year.

Ssshh, I agree and now everybody knows how stupid I am, too.

Fixed.

So, you two, in public places, do you stand in the middle of the hallway ignorantly and needlessly blocking everyone else's path, simply because there's no posted rules telling you not to?

no, but most are at a pool to enjoy it, not trying to think being the next Phelps is finally going to get them laid.

These fucking losers need to head to a pool for laps not a community one.

so everyone that swims laps thinks they are going to be the next "phelps" so they can get laid?

typically pools that people attempt to swim laps in have lane lines.......... that would mean they are setup for swimming laps

Yep, but it sounds like the op goes to a public pool and figures he has a right to tell people what they can and can't do there.

I had my own pool, it wasn't unrealistic. However; since you were talking trolling...thanks for proving you are one.

thanks Capt Obvious. Perhaps reply to the OP though...chances are a shared university pool is not a lap pool, chances are they do have one if he really was a swimmer though.

The only problem with that is actual swimmers might outshine him there. 😉

unrealistic in the sense that not everyone has the cash or the room to put in their own pool

yeah and probably post up on a swimmer's forum about some dude with a rubber cap and goggle crowding the center lanes doing a doggie paddle.

right so since you don't you can go out and dictate terms at your community pool? Last I checked 1 dude trying to do something while a half dozen or more are preventing that in a public area is absofuckinglutely the loser.

I said he can dictate what others can do?

Issues like this should always attempt to please the majority and not the minority. It should also try to please the people that were there first.

always do

University pool @ open swim (it was never stated if there were lane lines or not, seeing as this is a university pool I'm thinking lane lines are setup in at least part of the pool as that's how my university did open swim)
5-10 people standing in group in the middle of the pool
person angry that he cant get in his workout
(I think he asked them to move because that's what a normal person would do)
person stating what those people can do to avoid making others angry with a realistic statement

So OP,
Were there lane lines?
Did you ask them to help you out by moving over?
Is the pool usually used for lap swimming or just hanging out?

Ok, here is the setup (Since it seems to matter so much). The pool is the ONLY full sized pool at/near campus. It does have lanes marked on the pool, however the ropes where not up.

The pool does have lap swim times, however, they occur at 5am-7am in the morning, after that, the pools is booked all day for classes/kayaking/ect. Saturdays are the only days that it is open for the full day. The rest of the days you are lucky to see 2 hours when it is open.

If they where doing ANYTHING except for talking I would not have posted this thread, however, they weren't doing anything more then taking up space. (and no, they weren't standing on any jets, they where standing in the center of the pool...)

As for just about everything that alkemyst said, it is wrong, off base, and outright retarded. But heck, that seems to be the general rule about all his posts.

Yes

Yes, but it still boggles the mind why people would just stand in the middle (ok, the middle of the shallow end of the pool) of the pool doing absolutely nothing. Its like someone sitting on a weight machine without lifting weights, just talking to the guy lifting weights next to him.

It is a university pool, so it is hard to call it a hangout spot. As I said in my post above Mon-Fri it is pretty much booked for the entire day with only 2 or so hours dedicated to open pool time (Most of the time it is booked with swimming classes/swimming team practices).

I was a swimmer all through high school and college so I know your pain.

Some people just like to hang out in the water. After logging thousands of miles swimming I am unable to enjoy just lounging in water anymore.

When you got into the water they should have made room for you if there was available room. If you asked them to move over a bit they probably would have.

Bingo! Me, too. Competitive swimmer.

So now. giggling and squealing and splashing around while clutching my pink and yellow flower festooned flotation device in a secretly desperate death grip all us3rnotfound-like just wouldn't cut it. 😛
